Wasabi tobiko

hunter x hunter is probably top 10

Jahmilla

I’d recommend watching HunterxHunter before fullmetal alchemist brotherhood since it’d be something new for both of you and you’re watching Naruto which one of you have already watched (partially). Though I’m biased and love HxH more…lol

Faeginn

It's all in Thorfinn's head, its the nightmare he keeps forgetting and its where he thinks he'll end up. Remember Einar wondered why he called for Askeladd in his nightmare and we kept seeing that imagery of him falling down the cliff. Askeladd also says "you're back here already?" The imagery is similar to 'Hel' and its where the dishonourable warriors go, basically, he doesn't consider anything he did as worthy of Valhalla because he just pillaged, plundered and killed civilians. (never read the manga, that's just my interpretation of it too)

Trinature

Thors never said Thorfinn shouldnt be a Warrior. He said he shouldnt use this knife to attack, only defend himself. In my Interpretation everyone is a Warrior. Its the battles u choose that make the difference. The battle everyone is fighting is against live itself. Everyone is "fighting" live everyday. U fight ur past mistakes, u fight for the future u want to live. Live itself is the true battle and finding happiness in life is the true goal of a "Warrior".

Wasim Azad

Not gonna lie that quote by thors "you have no enemies, no one has enemies" has changed my perspective in life on how I view anger. You know anime/manga is good when it changes the way you view life.

FW

If you're not joking Ron, I'm genuinely disappointed that you want thorfin to go back to how he was.

Jboo

Yea I rlly hope he doesn’t stop fighting at least the killing part I’m ok with him not doin but I wanna see him back in action for sure

Trinature

Ron very much strikes me as a Shonen Guy and everything else he is kinda sceptical about, but lets hope he keeps an open mind. There are many great "lessons" about life in non Shonen anime

czubie

Thorfinn is walking Thors’ path. He's finally able to understand the words that Thors relayed to him when he was a child. Thors also went through a similar shift which is why he deserted the Jomsvikings and fled all the way to Iceland, an island way way west of mainland Europe because he thought he could avoid warfare. I think this episode is interesting because it shows the way that Askeladd was also seen as a father figure, albeit one that had oppositional values to Thors, ie Thors' statement from the beginning of the series, "no one is your enemy" and Askeladd's "Here, everyone besides yourself is an enemy." But Askeladd also admires Thors and I think considers what he believes and stands for aspirational, hence his helping Thorfinn escape with his newly realized burden, even if it is a projection within Thorfinn's own mind.

JackLover19

I imagine Thorfinn might just start incapacitating people if he has to fight like his dad did when they were cornered by askeladd

Happy Kraken

HxH is Easily one of the best shonen ever made.

Prateek Sridhar

Expect Deku or All Might underwear soon Ron XD, Michelle wants us to get you pants and underwear 😆

Zechree

the sound track alone for the 2011 adaptation gives me chills

MarcusH

Can't wait for Fullmetal! Though I'm interested in all the hype for Hunter x Hunter too.

Prateek Sridhar

Im with Michelle's interpretation of the afterlife scene on this :p

Prateek Sridhar

The way I see it, the show shows Valhalla as this beautiful place where the true warriors go (as in Thors kinda way), and the hell they showed is where the warrior who are simply murderers go :p

BloodyShrimp

Honestly watching season 1 I was like "This is a typical shounen, main character fights and kills for revenge yada yada" but this season was much more compelling to me. Subverting expectations and turning the show around to teach viewers, that were hooked by the killing, valuable lessons. It is not something I've seen before and the answers to questions "What does it mean to be a true warrior" what does it mean to fight your battles in life. The value of life. Are what I want Throfinn to find as I want to find them myself and I think many watching asked themselves similar questions before.

klub

true one of the best soundtracks in anime

Tengen Uzui

Thorfinn is godlike on the battlefield. He’s skills in combat is pure art. Just wishes there was more of it. Personally I hope there will be more. Btw T1 6ft6 legend💪

justin

if you're not joking FW, im genuinely disappointed that you want Ron to not want Thorfinn to go back to how he was.

Maverick

I agree, I almost dropped the show at the beginning of s1 bc I thought it was cliche shonen, but later on and into s2 this show is absolutely beautiful

AhmedHBadr

Bruh, obviously nobody would be upset with thorfinn not wanting to engage in violence anymore, but this is an anime and itd be a lie to say that the violence and fighting in season 1 wasnt one of the main attraction points of vinland saga, so i completely get Ron's apprehension. I'm also wondering where the story is going to go with thorfinn as the main character, I just hope it doesnt become another slice of life anime.

Alex

its a dream boys calm down there no hell or heaven or valhala

MOB12

I think if the violence and fighting was one of the main attraction points for people, they really werent paying attention to the messages of the show. It was never about the fights. But that doesnt mean we wont have fights anymore. But they arent gonna be pointless like S1s were

Uku Kivisild

You two are going in circles about the dream. It's just a dream about how mindless the killing is in wars..

Uku Kivisild

Also Valhalla isn't equivalent to Heaven, warriors go to Valhalla to dine and fight for eternity and everyone else goes to hell but to be honest both sound like hell... it's not like you have to kill to get to heaven.

Saith Uchiha

Yes the big 3 correctly stated By Ron

Salmonero

Anyone who says it's garbage.. should not be taken seriously. Best power system in all of Shonen. Great arcs with pretty much zero filler episodes. Great writing. Amazing characters and a lot of hype moments. Fantastic music.

Leona DiCarryo

I would definitely put Hunter x Hunter on the same level as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Both are amazing mid-length anime, with great characters and awesome worldbuilding. I would love to see you guys react to both of these shows

Efren

I would put Hunter X Hunter on the same level to Naruto and One Piece

iu

nah naruto and one piece have pacing issues that make it below HxH. HxH is leagues ahead.

Yt Shadowww

welp its not the right interpretation, rons was pretty much spot on lol

Alex cleveland

HxH is overhyped imo, Very boring arcs and unnecessary dialogue. However, just enjoy the shows though man LOL. No need to compare all the dang time.

Joel Wilson

Hahah I was thinking that too comparing and all the time looking for va’s getting out of hand 😭😂

Joel Wilson

Pov Ron and Michelle:” omg his so hunted by all the killing” also them I want him to fight 😂😂😂. This season it’s not like season 1 and I think that’s the best course of action because thorfin is broken he doesn’t need any more violence

shad man

The pacing in the chimera ant arc was all over the place though

Aiden352

Thank god im not the only one who thought it was overrated. Granted for different reasons but still.

AhmedHBadr

you can understand the message of the show and still appreciate and look forward to action, badassery, or whatever you want to call it. it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. my point is, I completely understand the people who had mixed thoughts with regards to the direction the anime took. I actually think the fights mattered very much for some viewers in terms of their perception of characters, Thorkell being a good example. Many instances of character building happened throughout fights, this show did a very good job of intertwining the violence and the deeper aspects of the show. So in that sense I think it is a cop-out answer to just say 'those people dont understand the message of the show'. Don't get me wrong, I like the slower, more introspective episodes and the direction S2 took. I just dont think it's fair to disregard valid opinions :). On your last point, one of the main messages of the show is 'nobody has any enemies' so i find it hard to see how theyll make any war or fights meaningful. ill just have to wait and see i guess.

Trinature

Did u even see the episode? Thorfinn has the biggedt trauma ever bc oh his hatred and fighting. Maybe well see other people fight but i hope Thorfinn never to picks up a weapon again.

Trinature

nah i 100% agree. Pacing is definitly the biggest flaw of both naruto and one piece

Abigail Jerry

I love the discussion about Thorfinn’s dream. But to make it simplified, it is what is in throfinn’s heart. This is his ‘enlightenment’. Askaladd being there is just the representation of being a father figure still after death.

Luis Villatoro

thors father wanted him to follow the path of pacifism after a long life of killing lol

defnotdai

I understand throfinn is in his self reflection and growth era, and I respect that. But at the same time fuck never picking up a weapon again, I still wanna see him fight. I hope he doesn't feel like in order for him to be a better person he has to never be violent again. That logic seems flawed to me. Even thors continued to use violence when necessary, yet he was still a highly respectable person. But I would assume this is something else he'll eventually see for himself as the story continues.

faded

Yeah that was kinda my interpretation too, like there are almost different "sections" in Valhalla and depending what kind of warrior you were in life means where the soul goes after death. They definitely showed that beautifully lol, if they really had this in my mind. What was very probably the case in some way.

faded

And then there could be "real" nordic Hel for people who simply committed crimes, so not even for war or a duel…

faded

Could also kinda explain why Askeladd was seemingly fully conscious but still there. I mean he’s obviously a bad human who has done atrocious things but he had kinda noble reasons to go to war.

Luís

I'm probably too late for this comment, but I have an interesting insight on the "dream" scene: I saw a psychiatrist content creator who said that while we are sleep, our brain is actively working on storing what we learned today, and connecting the dots to what we already knew, which is what explains why we constantly wake up with new ideas or new insights (or why we spend 5 hours trying to beat a boss, go to sleep, wake up and beat the boss on the first try). I like to believe that's what was happening while Thorfinn was unconscious, his father's lesson finally clicked, and what we watched was a representation of his brain making the connections.
