Not every alchemist who tries human transmutation lives through it. Just thinking about it Al would be dead if Ed wasn't around to bond his soul to that armor. So given how rare it is to live through a human transmutation attempt that would imply Ed and his teacher are pretty rare.

You do get access to alchemy without a circle for doing human transmutation. It lets you go through that gate Ed went through to gain knowledge. But what gets taken may kill you, or take your whole body like Al.

No, people will not rush to go "see the truth" so that they can transmute without a circle... Because you risk losing a part of your body, especially if you dont get to choose. About "evil people" experimenting, well, the army was testing out some dodgy stuff already, so, who knows?

This episode is to let you know Edward and his master can perform alchemy without a transmutation circle is because they committed the taboo to revive someone with alchemy, lost a part of their body and saw the 'gate of truth/knowledge'. Anime can be for both children and adults. People assume that because it is animation it is for children.

Btw the only people that knew about Al was Winry, the Granny, Roy Mustang & Hawkeye…everyone else that knows just found out very recently after the battle with Scar, they witnessed it And the teacher only just reunited with them in this episode since that incident happened but she knew from the moment she saw them regardless

Yeah, this anime is meant for teenagers at the very least (since it's a shounen). Some of these concepts come up in novels meant for high school reading. Trust me, anime for little kids is very easy to spot lol. Doraemon, Anpanman, and Sazae-san come to mind!

Enjoy a lot of your reactions and theories so far, thanks for starting on this iconic anime :)) Just asking is there a way for you to watch it on another platform with white sub? Because its sometimes really hard to read, and I believe its easier for you to follow if the subs are not blended sometimes with the background. Not complaining tough if you keep it :)

After watching FMAB a billion times since the early 2000s....I just realized something. That random guy at the dam told Izumi that the boys didn't have any parents. So like shouldn't that mean that Ed should've already had a metal leg/arm and Al should be in a suit when they met Izumi?!?!? 🤯

No because they started learning alchemy from her in order to do the human transmutation, they said early in the show that they practiced for 2 years or more before they tried the human transmutation.
