I've got two versions of the same song here:

Version1

Version 2

The lyrics were written via the Greasytales facebook page, the same method used for Calloused Hands and Final Form.

I like the song and I'd like to animate it.  I'm thinking Gooseman and Fernando will sing it, there will be some staring into sunsets, pagan rituals, etc.

I made version 1 first, but I felt I'd set the pitch too high for my voice and it sounds stretched, so I made a second version that's 4 semitones lower.  The second version is twice as long.

Each one has elements I prefer.  I like how the song sounds 4 semitones lower, but I needed to play the chords in different places on the fret board so the guitar doesn't have the same rising appeal (hard to put in to words, perhaps you can hear what I mean).  Each one has lines of vocals that aren't quite there and would need to be redone.

So I'm wondering which one I should go with.  Which one is better do you think?

My first impression was that I liked version 2 better, but now I'm not sure after reading the comments. Maybe I'm a sheep. The last line really made me laugh though, and I don't think it would sound as funny in the first version. Great song regardless, don't think you can go wrong either way!

Thanks Jamie. Interestingly, most responses here favour #1, I asked the same question on the facebook page and responses were more even, perhaps tending to #2 though I haven't counted.

Your welcome Chris. I was a bit surprised myself. I think the higher pitch of the first one sounds more passionate, which is interesting to explore. I also think version 2 sounds more attune to gooseman's character. You feel there is some truth to what he is saying, but you feel unsure how serious he is because of his somewhat toned down approach, which is what have always found funny about that character.

Hmm... well, I'm no music guy but I'll give it a shot: I like version 1 better but I like parts of both. I prefer the tune in version 1 over version 2 because the low notes at the end of every bar in version 2 are a little jarring. The lyric from version 1 "The dress she wore barely hit her curves" was a little hard to understand the first time I heard it because it had too many syllables at the front, so I think the version 2 lyric "the dress barely hit her curves" fits better. (Maybe "her dress?") I like the singing of Gooseman's line "More than I deserved" better in version 2 because of the pitch down at the end. Try listening to version 1 until 23 seconds and then switch over to version 2 at the same point. It has kind of a cool effect. I was also trying to figure out what the first few notes of version 2 especially reminded me of, but then I realized, "Oh hey, it's Frosty the Snowman." And that's about all I've got. Hope it helped at all.

Listening to both I think version one sounded better but both are great. I was almost expecting a subtle Fernando moan at the end of the song, I think I've just grown used to hearing sounds of pain and pleasure in your music.

Version 1!

I'm not a music critic, but version 2 felt more relaxed and seemed smoother. Of course I agree that more moaning is needed. Version one felt like it had a touch more energy and if anything negative, slightly rushed. So I suppose the question is which one would suit comedic effect better.

Chris, you are asking hard questions! =) Both are great. But if I had to choose I would take the one 4 semitones lower as it's smoother and seems to flow more. Keep up the good work and have a nice day!

Hmm, that's a tough choice; I'm leaning more towards 2 because it feels a little more mellow, but part of me likes the first one for its tone and energy. I'm looking forward to seeing which one you pick!

good points, i'd say passion is more important to convince the listener. Even Gooseman can feel passion!

SexuaLobster

Thanks. Yeh, I'd change the v1 lyric to "The dress she wore...". The guitar does sound better in V1. I'll try that re switching half way, although generally I am prejudiced when it comes to key changes.

SexuaLobster

Recently I've been conscious of overdoing the moaning, particular after making something like Moancore. But with a song like this....how can there not be some kind of moaning?

SexuaLobster

I was really hoping there'd be a clear consensus. Here most people have gone with 1 but over on the facebook page 2 might have it.

Both sound good, the first makes me think of a legend from a bard. The second sounds a bit more chill. So far I like the first better, but they both have their appeal.

Haha, yeah. It is a pretty damn sensual and passionate song. Love when the bass comes in.

I love all your work by the way. I've been watching your videos since 2010.

I'd have to agree that the first melody is the superior one.
