Classic. Always loved the opening scene, the airplane episode, and the Kid with powers. Watched this as a kid a lot.

Someone told me that this movie is cursed (3 people died during filming), if J.L survived I guess I'm safe to watch it!!!

Wanna see something <i>really</i> scary?

Echo Moon

This was my pick for March!! Can't wait to see J's reaction! I have loved this film since I was a little kid. I always get a kick out of when the airplane creature shakes his finger like, No no no at John Lithgow. It is sad that the kids and the older actor died because the director just had too much cocaines that night of filming. :(

Big Frank

Ive never seen this before, should I watch it first solo???

Alberto Blanco

Hahah Mickey "Burgess Meredith" was the narrator. Also Vic Morrow the racist character at the beginning was killed during the filming because of negligence ..he was also great as the coach in the bad news bears with Walter Mathau,.You should check out Class of 1984 that's a B exploitation movie that will piss you the hell off..With very young Micheal J. Fox. Spielberg made the weakest one "Kick the Can", John Landis (,Coming to America, Blues Brothers, American Werewolf In London, Trading places, did the Opening &amp; Racist story. Joe Dante "The Howling , Gremlins 1 &amp; 2 did the kid Horror, and George Miller, Happy Feet &amp; all the Mad Max movies did the Monster on the airplane skit.

Echo Moon

It depends on your attention level. If you get distracted too much by watching along with J then I would suggest watching by yourself first. If not, then watching along with J shouldn't detract from the film. :)

Echo Moon

I kept waiting for J to recognize Burgess' voice and go, "That's my boy Mick!"

JL

Lol I thought it was him bc they mentioned him for no reason but then it didn’t have the heavy Mick gruff to it so I was like nah that’s not him

I had never seen this infamous anthology movie, and I had a blast watching along with J (the jump scare reaction in the prologue immediately made the whole experience a success lol). As for the film, IMO the final two chapters directed by Dante and Miller absolutely SMOKED the first two by Landis and Spielberg. Each episode was a fascinating showcase of each respective director's style and approach. Spielberg's visual direction is next-level genius; he moves his camera around the setting, creating so many immaculately composed mini-shots within the same take before cutting away. The level of creativity displayed within his shooting style proves yet again that he's one of the greatest artists in the medium's history. And yet Dante and Miller's sections have such a coked-out, manic energy to them which IMO is way more effective and suitable to the overall project. Thank you to Echo M for picking this and finally giving me a reason to check it out. It's one of the few films by Spielberg (and the great George Miller) I had yet to see.

I've first-time watched a couple movies "with" JL and I really enjoyed it - his commentary elevated my first viewing...if that helps at all.

I always enjoyed this movie so glad it was chosen for you to watch, J! Watching as an adult always makes me sad to know that Vic Morrow and two kids in the first story were killed while filming. A accident with the helicopter. Negligence all around. So, so tragic.

BTW, the “bad” teacher from segment 3 is Kathleen Quinlan. She’s been in some other good movies - Apollo 13, Breakdown (with Kurt Russell). You may enjoy those if you haven’t already seen. 😊

Richard Matheson...one of the writers. Anyone care about nerding 'bout him?

g g gooding

Chris...that is possibly the most succinct description of this film I've ever heard. You's clearly a gent that gets all the Jokes. 👏👏👍

Chris Gaitan

His Twilight Zone and Night Gallery episodes are classics, and though I'm horribly unread on the bulk of his written works I did indeed read I Am Legend as a teenager and I remember absolutely LOVING IT (especially the twist ending). I ended up really disliking the Will Smith movie that came out a few years later specifically because it was such a terribly unfaithful adaptation lol. I guess I should probably give it another shot one of these days and judge the film on its own merits.

g g gooding

Will Smith I Am Legend is mediocre, not worth a revisit imao. The Vincent Price one is, sadly, boring. The Charleston Heston one is cute, but not great. All 3 flub the novels epic ending.😞<p>Matheson's short stories are rock solid. His novels are hit and miss. Hell House is pretty fantastic...and its low-budget 70's movie (Roddy McDowall!) is pretty darned good.</p>

Hell House <i>is</i> Matheson "rebooting" Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. Jackson is certainly the better wordsmith (she's a God, imo) but Matheson plots better.<p> If not the novel, Chris, do dig the movie The Legend of Hell House. (The trailer is crap and spoily, fyi.)</p>

It happened filming the first "story" in the movie. They didn't show it (of course), but they were filming a scene where Vic Morrow (I think that was his name, the main actor in that story) was running through a jungle carrying 2 kids (he was supposed to be experiencing what natives went through in the Vietnam War), when a helicopter malfunctioned and fell on him and killed him, and I think the kids, too. His real-life daughter is Jennifer Jason Leigh.
