Part 2 of our look at the Bay Area and the serial killer as a social and political subject in the 60s and 70s. The Dark Cowboy (Brace - @TrueAnonPod) once again guides the humble host (me - @ghoststoriesend) on a dark voyage into the West Coast netherhead. A psychedelic abyss, you might say, where spooks, dirty politicians, killers, crooks, cult leaders and capering grotesques grin with bloody, hungry mouths as the 60s counterculture slams head on into the nihilistic 70s.

Just subscribed, so I'm extremely late to this, but it's important to note that Dan White and his "twinkie defense" coupled with the insane acquittal are straight out of the MKULTRA playbook. Also important to note that the assassinations happened 9 days after the Jonestown mass murder

Glad to hear I'm not the only one whose MKUltra alarms get set off big time by Rodney Alcala. The guy got Jimmy Shaver'd

For me when thinking of the dark turn of Northern California's 1970s my mind always starts with Pynchon's Vineland. Doesn't focus so much on the Bay as further inland but still super relevant.

Can't forget about environmental conditions. People were breathing in lead at the time.

Confession time: I think brace did actually make this point but I forgot to mute my mic so all you could hear was my cat meowing and purring on the playback, had to cut it 😬
