It occurred to me that I never actually introduced myself. Wasn't trying to be mysterious, I just never got around to it.

Hello. How do you do.

What is your backstory to starting GSFTEOTW? Where did the interest in parapolitics come from? It’s feels like the podcast just appeared one day and everyone was recommending it

Stewart Robertson

Hello. I am perfectly well thank you how are you?

GhostStoriesForTheEnd

I am from the same city as the Yorkshire Ripper and Jimmy Saville. The area I grew up in there was/is extremely deprived. Lots of unemployment, mental health problems, gangs, crime, racial tensions, and just all-out murderers and such. We were also raised with stories of how MI5 and Special Branch effectively went to war with the north in the 80s, so we know we have to be suspicious of authority, especially cops and politicians etc. So I guess growing up seeing lots of crime, thinking about why that happens, where it comes from, and just reading loads of stuff. Then eventually I thought, I could do a show like Trueanon or Media Roots and explore all this stuff in a healthy way, rather than annoying my girlfriend and people at parties. Edit: I should emphasise that my city isn't the hellhole it might seem from that ☝️ It's actually pretty cool with fun people and interesting places to explore. Like anywhere, some areas are a little rougher than others.

I'm feeling good Stewart. Any weekend plans? For some reason I have decaffeinated tea in the house so I'm drinking a cup. It's not bad.

Brendan Garcia

A little disappointed you’re not a Clive or a Neville, but I guess Matt will do.

Brendan Garcia

I’ve come around on it as an adult, but when I was a kid it was pretty uncommon, and therefore weird. Lots of Brandons, of course, but then there was also a few Brendons in my grade. It’s weird, I feel like Brendan is the standard spelling, but I’ve always had to spell it for people. “Brendan with an a. No, not Brandon, an a at the end.”

GhostStoriesForTheEnd

I always thought Brendan was standard. I have never encountered a Brendon. Lots of people spell my name with one T but I have also never encountered a single T Matt anywhere. People get some strange notions in their heads.

Hi Matt,

Just signed up. Love the show. Thanks.

Divad Kong

Stupid question but you always sounded absurdly familiar and I assumed you were from Leeds or Wakefield where I was stationed for a few years 02 to 05, don't suppose you were hanging out with art/uni/techno circles in those days. Tangentially new a couple matt's in those days.

G’day Matt!

James Bradley

What it do? Love the show.

Stewart Robertson

I may or may not have weekend plans depending on whether other people turn out to be ill with what may or may not be covid. Not overly concerned if they end up falling through, I do enjoy time doing nothing

Hello, fellow generic-name-haver. Hope you're well, and thank you for producing such a high-quality and insightful show.
