Tonight we look at the life and times of James Angleton. We examine his obsession with the so-called Monster Plot, and his mysterious role in the aftermath of a high-profile 1964 murder. It's a moody outing tonight, friends, as we navigate an underworld of poetry, spook intrigue, Cold War paranoia, and the melancholy of the deep state.

this bumps; extremely grateful that your show covers less well-known stuff that other folk don’t really get into but is also materially grounded and not off-the-wall esoteric. a rare and bountiful middle-ground

How do you interpret the sedan? My impression was that the mechanic was originally supposed to be the scapegoat, but since he witnessed and reported the murder, they had to find another one quick. But it still doesn't seem to quite add up

Excellent ep as always

Angleton also inspired the fictional/composite representation of Richard Helms in Oliver Stone’s Nixon (Director’s Cut). In the film, and historically, it’s Richard Helms, but he’s depicted in the film as a weird pervert who has an office full of orchids.

Haha, settle in mate. It’s a LONG movie. Also note that that scene was deleted from the original release.

That scene alone is worth the Youtube.

Second time patron (lapsed during the hiatus and wasn't in the right headspace when you returned) so glad to be back! Catching up with what I missed. I think this is my favorite ep so far. Listened while driving and had to pull over multiple times to take notes.
