Are we too forgiving of narrative weakness in hero fantasy video games?

Since the release of Uncharted 4 on PS4, I have been replaying the first three Uncharted games for the first time since I originally played them. I still maintain that they are fantastically produced action adventures, but something has been standing out to me more and more as I progress through the series.

Interesting article. I can honestly say that those inconsistencies didn't even register with me and I've played all the uncharted games more than once. Narrative cohesion isn't a priority for me, basic premise is enough, i.e. Give me a gun and point me out the bad guys. That said, I think you made a very salient point about Drake's near death from thirst. Instead of just discarding it once the action starts, they might have used it as an opportunity to give some nuance to the gameplay, that way it would have enriched the game.
