It's pretty darn popular to hate the ending to Mass Effect 3. I think it's pretty great. Time to get told I'm wrong.

Mass Effect 3 - Some Things Are Inevitable

Mass Effect 3 didn't end how I wanted it to end. Mass Effect 3's ending left me unfulfilled. Mass Effect 3's ending stripped all choice and defiant agency away from me. I think the ending to Mass Effect 3 was perfect at doing what it needed to do.

I can get behind what you're saying, but only after I played the whole series through a second (well, third in the case of ME1 and ME2, but second in the case of whole series because it was the second time I played ME2 but *details*) and was playing towards the extended cut. Even then, the choice coming out of nowhere I only found made any sense with the Leviathan DLC and those themes about cycles I can't even imagine being fully characterized in ME3 without Javik being in there (who's also DLC).

My problem with ME3's ending is not with the narrative. I can get behind the idea that, ultimately, your choices don't matter. Some things are just bigger than you. It's a bit of a downer, but that's kind of the theme of the game. No, my problem was that, even with that theme in mind, they still decided to let you make a choice at all. And even further, that your final ending was determined *only* by a single choice. I would have much preferred that the choice Shepard makes in the end is determined by the path the player took throughout the games. At the very least, let my the weight of decisions focus into a single, final consequence. But the game couldn't even give me that much satisfaction. Make no mistake, I still love the series. The tone may be fine, and the narrative coherent; but the way the served it up was weak, at best.
