Hello!

I hope everyone enjoyed the minis/props/terrain pieces I did for February. It was the first time I really went into a month focusing on a singular theme like that and it was a fun change of pace.

My plan this year is to try to do one of these themed months every other month with the months in between being composed of the more eclectic/non-themed miniature releases. That said March is already developing into an Artificer/Construct theme so... we'll see how that develops lol.

My tentative schedule for this is:

  • February - Dungeon
  • April - Tavern/Urban
  • June - Jungle/Lost World
  • August - Some Sci-Fi stuff
  • October - Horror/Halloween
  • December - Winter/Holidays

And again the months in between will focus on assorted heroes, npcs, monsters, etc that likely won't fit any specific theme. This should hopefully give me a chance to tackle larger projects (like new sets of Modular Walls, or some larger minis again) which I can steadily chip away at in the background during the non-themed months.

What Goes Into A Theme

February's Dungeon Theme was my first full attempt at this and provides a solid template for what I'll generally be shooting for. Generally it should look something like this:

  • New set of Modular Walls
  • Handful of Props that fit that theme
  • New Map tile texture and/or Appropriate top down tokens
  • Themed NPCs/Monsters/Humans*

*If I could do the Dungeon theme over again I'd want to do a better job of including some new monster/hero minis - I ended up going a bit heavy on props and the modular walls, and I would have liked to get a few more actual creature minis out last month. Lesson learned!

Anyhow, thanks for reading and as always I'd love to hear your thoughts/feedback!

Sounds awesome! We're about to start a D&D campaign in space though, so if you could just mooooooove up that sci-fi month a bit, that'd be great :D

Sound as a pound, mate. I gotta get my printer running.

Looking good! I'd love to see monster focused month that's centered around a theme, e.g. nautical monsters, or Greek-inspired monsters, or arctic monsters, etc.

Very excited for June!

Love this plan. ❤️

That is a great plan!

I absolutely love the amount of dungeon props we got lately! I've already printed several of them to use in my game, and more to come. A follow-up question to that, would it be possible to get an upgrade or alternative version of some of the older props (like barrels, tables etc) to match the new dungeon floors? Like a change to their bases.

I'm happy to read that you want to do more miniatures in the future. I don't dislike the props, but as I use your products for wargaming, i have only limited use for them.

Looking forward to June! Hoping for some kind of ancient temple or tomb themed ruins. With vines growing over the walls, strange carvings and statues of beasts. Like an Indiana Jones movie!

I second those calling for more minis, although props like orbs and traps are really useful additions to a flat map. I especially appreciate the large-sized minis, because those get expensive in a hurry, yet you often need several of the same type. I sometimes consider shelling out to buy a plastic mini for the big boss, but I don't want to do that for minions.

Could not disagree more, I've been waiting to flesh out my maps with things like these without spending a fortune on scenery. Keep the props and environment coming!

Hi, recently joined Patron here. Is a weasel and giant badger mini possibly on the way? I'm trying to complete a grey bag of tricks and I noticed you didn't have either.

Same sentiment here. I came for the fantastic artwork for the standees. The props are also beautifully made, but I have very limited use for them too, since I already had alternate options for them for a long time. I subscribed for years for the creature standees, which are the absolute best around. Clearly a lot of people have use for them too though, so the only thing I can think of is I kind of wish you could have an opt out option for the prop months if there's going to be such a heavy focus on them moving forward.

I really appreciate the feedback. I was concerned this might be the case for a fair number of patrons. I'd like to keep making the props/terrain stuff, but I think I need to find a way to do it where it's not effecting the number of regular minis I'm releasing in a month. It might be something where rather then trying to release a themed batch every other month I instead do it once a quarter (every 3 months) to give me more time to work on the props/walls in between the regular minis. I'll figure something out. Again I appreciate the feedback, it really helps me refine my approach and hone in on making stuff both the community and myself will enjoy.

Cheers, that's very fair. 😅 You're venturing into new territory that you are also enjoying, so I get that it's gonna take time to figure out a good balance!
