Continuing on with this month’s Patreon requests here’s Swan, a Dwarven Shaman and her companion Asiaq, a spirit of spring rains.

Swan has seen the world spirits for as long as she can remember. They seemed to be everywhere… the hearth spirit; smoky and mercurial, the spirit that rode in her father’s war axe; old and cruel, the joyful and inexorable wave spirits crashing relentlessly against the beach at the cliff’s bottom. Taking up the mantle of Spirit Speaker - somewhat of a family tradition - she learned to speak with them, to barter with them, and, if necessary, to bind them.

Ultimately, though, a spirit bound her. When an unnatural fever wracked her coastal home, she worked a ritual and bound Morroq the fever spirit to herself, bearing the brunt of his wrath alone. It proved far more powerful than she expected, and her life was saved only by the grace of Gentle Asiaq, the spirit of the spring rains, whose soothing touch quenched Morroq’s hungering flame and drove him out. It took Swan some weeks to recover, during which she and Asiaq formalized their bond as demanded by traditions of old.
