What's the best way of cutting it out so there is no white from photo paper?

Wait, is there no clear version? The entire point of the original cube was that it was clear so you would just unknowingly walk into it. I love the mini, don't get me wrong, but would you consider a clear version, maybe as a winter special (call it "ice cube")?

I print with the black border and then cut as close to the miniature as possible.

Print it on transparency film if you can. That would create the effect you desire.

Like Jason mentioned, plus I use a Sharpie (dark grey or black) and "edge" the cutout, running the side of the pen's ink felt against the white edges of the paper. I use the normal Sharpie markers, not the fine points for this (since I'm actually not using the point end for the edging).
