Order of Shieldice assemble! 🛡 🎲 🧊

Hi all! I hope you're well. Today's post is a fun concept I recently played around with. I needed a quick map for a session, so came up with the idea of using top-down Drone Photos of landscapes within hexes to create an abstract, textured map layout. I designed three locations, and allowed the player to choose which environment they'd like to explore by showing them a section of each map (this was a one on one session testing out a new co-op story system I've been working on). I thought you'd all find some imaginative use for them. 📍 ✏️

Fog of War - I also designed a fog of war print out. This will show your party or player's location hex, and the surrounding, adjacent hexes, if you wish to conceal most of the map. The map edges sometimes pop into view depending on location (at A4 or US letter printing), but it worked well enough! 👁

📸 The Drone Photo Textures themselves, the individual hexes, are all from Pexels and Unsplash, two great commercially free photo sites:

Using Drone Shots as Battle Maps? - Another thought popped into my head while designing these maps. A single, cool looking drone shot could be gridded and printed to use as battle maps! I had some fun finding abstract rock textures and snowy drone shots which would work perfectly for battle maps. I'm sure this has probably been done before, but I may make a collection of edited battle maps in the future using photo textures just to see how it turns out! 😃

Thanks agains for your continued support!
