I don't yet have a name for the world this map belongs to, but we started playing a D&D 5th edition summer campaign with my 13 and 8 year old boys and 11 year old daughter.

Regardless of my 27 years of roleplaying I have never really familiarised myself with any of the D&D fantasy worlds out there. (Yes, I know. It's kind of embarrassing...) Well, I've played some, but this time we decided to make a world of our own instead of trying to learn a new world.

A few details about the map and the world:

  • The map represents an area roughly the size of (Western) Europe or North America.
  • To the West there's a vast ocean that no one has crossed yet.
  • To the East there is the great Wall of Mountains that are claimed by the dwarfish kings.
  • Beyond the Wall of Mountains spans the cold and barren Wildlands inhabited by the barbarians and orcs for the most parts.
  • To the South there is the great dessert of Vaël. The legends tell that the tieflings migrated to the known lands through the desert a hundred generations ago and inhabited the coast North of the desert.
  • Legend tell that the elves migrated to the western coasts and the coastlines of the Middle Sea after their home islands sunk in the ocean.
  • In this world the High Elves build pyramids and have dark hair, tan skin and light blue or green eyes.
  • To the North there is the White Sea and the Land of Ice.
  • The Island with the crater lake at the center of the Middle Sea is Vyrma. The island is inhabited by the fierce redheaded virmans and dragonkin and ruled by the Queen of Dragons.
  • Tieflings are told to have come from the stars with a great ball of fire that fell somewhere beyond the desert of Vaël.

More about the world of ...*cough*... when we get more facts together with my kids.
