In 2015, I was invited to speak at a Wikipedia conference in DC. I told the inviting fellow he should probably check with the rest of the organizers, so that when they rejected me, he could find someone else in short notice. He assured me that wouldn't happen. 7 days before the event, I got a 14-paragraph letter about how terrible he felt that I'd been rejected.

I wasn't surprised. Who would want one of the more saucy Wikipedia critics to appear during a Wikipedia event!

Late last year, like December 27th late, I was invited to give a presentation at another Wikipedia event, one in New York City. Since I basically live near NYC, it was harmless to agree again, and wait for what pulled-in-rule would drop me.

But none did. The organizers welcomed me openly, and I gave the speech I'd wanted to give for years. It's linked in this entry. There are no slides and it's just me talking about the related subjects.

Enjoy the speech.

Extra bonus: The nice guy who invited me to the DC conference was at this conference and said hi afterwards, and was pleased both that I got to give a speech, and that this was similar to what I'd have given at the one he invited me to. Good time all around.
