Hi besties! So here's Part 1 of my body poses explanation!

As I've said on the last post ... I'm just gonna show you the "techniques" I use to paint ANY pose, instead of doing tutorials for specific poses.

The first technique for me is using simple colors to simplify the pose and separate the parts of the body!

MATERIALS:

  • Wow Brush
  • Canvas Size: 3819 x 4215px
  • 2 Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies

REFERENCE PIC:

WHY THIS TECHNIIIIQUE:

  • It's just.... easier and makes it simpler (at least for me hehe) to separate the body parts using different colors!
  • Helps when you get overwhelmed easily by complicated poses
  • For head empty besties like me who doesn't want to think about 3d shapes!! We'll only think about 2d...... simple shapes... planes...

NOTE: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE FACE OR THE OTHER SMALL DETAILS FOR NOW! YOU CAN SPEND TIME ON THAT LATER. FOR NOW, FOCUS ON THE POSE!

1. Choose a background color! This one is random but, red is fierce and she's giving.. fierce.

2. OUTLINE. I paint the outline or the silhouette of pose and I use random colors to separate the parts. I look at the body parts as separate shapes which helps me to not get overwhelmed by the actual pose.

(Like,,, look at her besties, her pose looks super hard to paint but look at the right side lmao overall it's just simple blocks!! dont be scared!!!!)

(Ok so ummm this part is actually technique # 3 so i'm not gonna elaborate much lmaooo but i can't show you guys how i do the color technique without showing this too... I use both!!)

So you know how sometimes your eyes get wonky when you try to copy and paint the pose?? the secret izzz you look at the negative space, besties. (Sorry for always metnioning negative space here on my patreon.. what can I do, I'm a negative space hoe) The space around the subject.

Sculpt the pose by using the erase tool, just erase erase erase the initial random colors until you get the exact negative space shape around!

You can also section off the picture into small parts like this and then copy the negative space !!

3. Now you slap those base shadow colors

4. and the base highlight

5. Work on the details! Remember that the goal here is to be able to copy the pose of the subject, so you don't have to put too much effort on the details!!

Colors also help me a lot when there are same colors on one surface, for example the fingers!! Your eyes can get wonky and you won't be able to see the shapes clearly if you only use one skin color right away when you paint those fingers, so separating them with different colors helps a lot!

So now u just double check to see if you've got the same shapes and lines as your reference pic!

tadaaaaa! I'm going to post the timelapse on the @fartcyll account!

I'll show more examples of this when I post the SPACES Part!!!! Next post will be about shapes!!

Upload it on our community section if u tried this!!!!!

Good night besties luv u luv u thank u if you actually read this lmao
