well hello there babes

today

is the last day

is it? No its not

tomorrow.. is the last day of our january patreon shenanigans… i bid some of u farewell and i welcome the newcomers with open hands… 🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲

so these.. are just quick tipsieS.. and kind of a summary too I don’t even know, it’s just the important stuff i always do when i paint hands

Using a reference picture! Sooo when hand poses gets complicated to paint, one thing to do is to observe the surrounding of the subject /negative space!

You can just simplify the space around your subject, like from the picture above, i used super simple shapes.. then..  make sure you have the same shapes on your painting too.. does that make sense? you don’t need to like.. use exact measurements or use perfect shapes.. it’s just an estimate of the space around your subject. It‘s like.. you’re using these shapes… to shape your subject..……. (take a shot every time u read ”shape”)

now for the front side of the fingers! some important points are:

1. Always think 3d! no flat fingers In this community and economy. Also don’t forget the curves!

2. Some fingers are straight…. but i like mine curvy.. it gives extra dimension.. imperfection… and we love that

3. I always start with a dark color first for the wrinkles and nails. Then i paint over it with lighter colors and leave some dark color as like.. a shadow or outline. (note: you don’t really see that i leave the dark outline here on the nail lmao bcos I painted the nail separately to show you the process)

4. There’s the nail process..

5. Again, i always start with a dark color then paint lighter color lines over it instead of straight up painting wrinkle lines.. i feel like with my method… you can see more brush strokes and the lines are not too sharp and straight which would make the wrinkles look.. awkward? i guess? idk maybe i just like suffering and doing this extra work

6 and 7! Shadows and highlights of course!

and now for the finger profile! Not much to say about this, just don’t forget the bumps!! There’s always bumps! And curves!

i guess that’s it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really tried this month to post more and share some hand knowledge haha i hope you guys got some spicy tips!
