16 frames seems to be a good esthetic choice I think.

8 or 16 are good

Don't think the enemy sprites need more frames, the event sex scenes though. They get really choppy and weird if you slow down or go super fast. Maybe interpolation would help it look smoother without having to do a shitton of work for it

Honestly the examples above 8 frames look a little strange to me. Other than that I love it.

16 frames is good

The Interpolation technique doesn't work well with originally low frames as it has to guess what's the motion between the frames (and computers are mega stupid). So unless you include more of the walking motion, it won't work well.
