on the Columbus Day talk, there's a similar thing here in Aus with Australia Day which marks the first arrival of the British and is also a pretty recent national holiday ('94). The difference is that no one really gives a shit about the holiday outside of monarchist weirdos so there's a decent chance it could actually get replaced. From how you were talking about it it sounds like there are people that want to basically rename Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day which if true seems incredibly shit to keep the date the same lol
