Hey! Just a quick progress update on the next Sublo episode, and some pics including a rough drawing and a rare bald Katy (the hair is a separate layer for overlapping action).

The episode is about 3/4 animated. A lot of that completed animation still requires colouring though. I've already done most of the fun parts, but there are still a bunch of talking head close-ups and some tricky bits left to get through. I also might revise a shot or two I'm not totally happy with; I work quickly and tell myself it doesn't have to be perfect, since it all goes by so fast while you're watching the episode, but I still wouldn't want to put out anything that really bothers me when I look at it.

I've recorded all the music I think I'll need. I actually did that way in advance of the animation, since cranking out a bunch of simple generic nightclub tracks was an easy thing I could do to procrastinate that still felt productive. Since this one takes place in a club, all the music is diagetic rather than score, at least so far. In general my tastes are leaning towards less 'score' music when it comes to dialogue-driven comedy-- but then in "Tito's Pants," once I got into the final sound edit I did end up deciding a few scenes needed simple last-minute accompaniment to push the mood.

I still need to colour all the backgrounds (although the colours for each environment have been keyed out, since I had to do that first in order to colour the characters).

Also, twitter user @EmmyNemee has created a Katy AI chatbot! AI freaks me out, but I'm flattered they liked the show enough to make this. I messed around with it a little and it starts off in-character, apart from being too friendly and chatty... but then it starts making up its own backstory! It claimed Katy had a younger sister who died 7 years ago and had a boyfriend named Jake, and insisted that Tangy Mustard was a real bird Sublo keeps as a pet. It's interesting to play with, but definitely not a reliable source of Sublo lore!
