I've been working on collages lately, for a few reasons.

A) Cutting up old photo books is a kind of therapeutic distraction from the depressing reality of pandemic life, and a nice tactile break from working digitally

B) Juxtaposing unrelated elements in weird ways can jumpstart my brain in unexpected creative directions, which can help get me working on personal cartoons again

C) It makes me laugh harder than almost anything

I'm doing a virtual panel on making indie cartoons this month at TAAFI (Toronto Animation Art Festival International). First I was just going to be on the panel, then they asked if I could moderate it instead... And like an absolute chump, I said yes! It should be good though. I invited my friends Jonni Phillips and Hannah Daigle, and we also have Ian "Worthikids" Worthington on the panel. I'm gonna ask them hard questions, so keep an eye out for this panel! Not sure when/ where/ how you can watch it yet.

I'm also writing an article on my favourite movie, Mind Game, for Cartoon Brew's "The Animation That Changed Me" series.

...Other than that, same old same old! No personal cartoon projects happening right now but I'm feeling closer and closer to starting either more Sublo and Tangy Mustard, a new thing, or a little bit of both.

Most of the time I've just been busy with all-consuming work on Tuca & Bertie season 2. I only directed one episode, but I'm supervising directing the whole season and will be one of the animation retake directors. Not sure supervising is something I'll want to do again honestly, at least not on somebody else's show. I think it's going to be a good season with some really fun episodes, but any TV production is always a frustrating and exhausting constant battle for quality against forces of time and money dragging you down! Cheat sheet for when it comes out: episodes 2, 3 and 7 are my favourites so far!

Happy belated Halloween! - Aaron
