I haven't had much to post on here lately,  since I've been busy supervising directing Tuca & Bertie season 2! I'm slowly starting to work on personal projects again and obviously I can't share anything current from work, but it's probably fine to share a little bonus thing from season 1 of the show since it came out over a year ago!

Here's a comparison of my boards/rough animation vs final animation for the Tuca & Bertie season 1 main title sequence. I completed the 'walking towards camera' shot before the rest as a style test, which is why it's already animated in this cut of the animatic. You can also see that a couple of shots were replaced, since my original pitches were a little hackneyed and I was told to go weirder and more abstract-- a frequent note on the show, and one that I'm always happy to get!

The intro went through a few changes, since it started off twice as long before getting condensed, but I thought it would be fun to share this version which is pretty close to the final. This main title sequence is my favourite thing I've gotten paid to do. It's always nice to just cut loose and try to make eye candy without narrative constraints.

I thought the main titles were a good opportunity to establish a) the friendship between Tuca and Bertie and b) the weird surreal world of Birdtown, which we don't necessarily get to focus on in every episode. I love animating weird dances, as you can see in my own series Sublo and Tangy Mustard and as much as possible in the Tuca & Bertie interstitials.

The final clean animation for the main titles was done by me and Alex Salyer, and art directed by Alison Dubois (along with the rest of the season!)
