Thought this might be fun to share! It's a "fake" 3D effect I did for a train going by in the next episode of Sublo and Tangy Mustard.  It's just flat drawings skewing and pinching as they get bigger. I assume you can do this much easier in After-Effects or Maya, but it was faster for me to just do it in Flash than learn how in another software. I also like that it keeps everything cohesive, being done in the same program, and I did tracebacks to make it boil and just feel a little bit rough and janky like the rest of the show. My goal wasn't perfectly smooth movement.

looks really cool aaron! I do this all the time in AE, definitely easier but it looks great; fight the medium for the results!

That looks great! I get why studios do it, but I'm always disappointed when vehicles in 2D productions are done with CG. This feels like a good compromise.

yeah I like that, "fight the medium!" It can result in some interesting stuff you wouldn't get using the 'right' tool sometimes.

To me the gold standard for animated vehicles is Ghibli movies. They always used to hand-animate the vehicles and it was so fun to look at. The car chases in Lupin III movies wouldn't work at all for me if the cars were CG.
