While the first Emperor of the Yam Dynasty is best known for his terracotta army, in life he much preferred statues of jade. His palaces and gardens were filled with countless such statues, often with their arms removed after creation. The superstitious Emperor wanted to ensure that they could never open the door to his chambers and strangle him in his sleep should they ever return to life.
