The black pines of the mountain forests of the Ki'an'di'va Islands, deep in the Southern Ocean of Maria, are home to the highly dangerous ki'an'ta'vik, or black pine grubs. Their touch is pleasant. Their silk is comfortable. Their ministrations are fascinating. Before you know it, you'll be bound to a black pine, wrapped in a thick cocoon, and slowly transforming into a dozen or more brand new grubs.
