The Free Steps Rule:

In order to discourage disruptive use of time-outs during the Biogel Games, every gelfighter is allowed to take a certain number of steps after the second time-out bell has sounded and weapons are disabled. If a referee calls the time out, all gelfighters are allowed five steps. If a team calls for a time-out and the referees agree, then members of the team calling it are allowed four, while members of the opposing team are allowed seven.

Any combat activities engaged in during the free movement will result in a critical foul, with the offending gelfighter(s) being required to surrender themselves to whatever their target was subjected to. Physical contact is limited to touching and 'mild, easily broken restraint', such a a hand on the shoulder of a target.

Gelfighters are permitted to pick up objects, weapons, ammo, and upgrades during the free movement and time-out, so long as they do not exceed their allowed number of steps.

Gelfighters who exceed their allowed number of steps are required to return to the point where their maximum allowed number of steps would have ended.

When the time-out ending bell is sounded, weapons are immediately reenabled, and play may resume as normal.
