Gobzite

Virtually unknown in its fundamental form, gobzite is a trans-dimensional mineral which can be either solid or liquid depending on its exposure to trans-dimensional energies. In the wild, pure gobzite is extremely rare, and generally found as a crystal clear vein embedded in a mass of igneous rock. In the presence of a sapient soul, the rock will begin to glow a faint white color, and might be induced to liquefy on physical contact.

Liquid gobzite will flow over a sapient victim, forming an unbroken coating over their body while slowly sapping energy from the captive soul's connection to its fundamental form beyond the mortal realm. As it does so, it slowly transforms the victim's body into more gobzite, a process which doesn't separate the soul from the mortal realm until the moment of its completion. What is left behind is a solid mass of gobzite with the victim's skeleton embedded within.

Most examples of pure gobzite in existence are in the form of prior victims, and a number of such can be found in museums. Examples of gobzite which has been altered by various natural conventional and trans-dimensional processes is far more common, however. The most famous of these is commonly known as purple slime, used by the ancient, extinct key'vin'ta as a source of 'magical' power.

Of the remaining forms of altered gobzite, only that known as slitherslime is common enough to be considered a hazard in certain places. This hyper-sensitive form of gobzite is slightly green in coloration, and will begin to glow when a sapient life form is up to twenty meters distant. It will liquefy in response to a sapient life form coming within 10 meters, and will slither its way toward the potential victim until its progress is blocked, or the victim moves further than 10 meters away.

Should the slitherslime catch a victim, its effect is similar to that of base gobzite, though it leaves no skeleton to warn future victims of their peril.
