Progressive Regenesis

Progressive regensis is the typical biological process by which one species of organism is physically transformed into another without interrupting the subject's life, or consciousness mind. The highly complex regenesis process involves the rapid transition of the subject's genetic material through a series of progressive states, each bringing the subject's genetics closer to the target species. These genetic changes act as catalysts for physical transformation on a cellular level, progressively bringing the subject's closer and closer to the physical form of the target species. The actual appearance and personal experience of various regenesis types varies wildly, but one thing they all have in common is the continuity of the conscious mind, and the lack of pain or extreme discomfort associated with more abrupt forms of biologically based physical transformation.

Due to the energy requirements of progressive regenesis, it generally results in a physical form that is lower in overall mass than the subject's original body. This would seem to be a disadvantage, but in natural evolutionary terms, subjects of progressive regenesis are generally intended to be servile to whatever it was that initiated their transformation. The rowa serve as a prime example of this, the results of their transformations invariably being small, and relatively helpless on their own, at least initially. Some rowa servant creatures can grow to be quite large post-transformation, but these are often left so mentally dull that they hardly rise above the definition of animal.

Progressive regenesis is usually what is sought after by transformation fetishists, either as entertainment or personal experience.
