Mashiva Mariners' University

1000 Kavandi Shipyard Way, Mashiva, Maria, Marian Drift Prefecture. Established 4610.

The Mashiva Mariners' University was established as a school to teach future spacefarers the most modern tools and methods of the various spacefaring trades. Constructed into the former building hangars and secondary facilities of the defunct Kavandi-Mashiva Shipyard, the school is notable for its dull, utilitarian outer appearance and the plethora of leftover industrial gear that serves as 'art' around the large campus. Inside, most of the University buildings have an 'old-school-mariner's' kind of appearance, with plenty of carved wood and nautically themed décor.

What makes the Mashiva Mariners' University stand out is its incorporation of biogel and the biogel lifestyle into the campus and curriculum. Biogel wear is not mandatory, except for those majoring in biogel science, biogel space operations, biogel space systems, biogel space systems engineering, or in biogel starship engineering. Biogel wear is still encouraged in various ways, and roughly forty percent of the student body currently lives within its glistening black embrace. These students are provided with special, fully biogel equipped private rooms within the student living area of campus, while others are provided with more conventional private accommodations.

Notable facilities within MMU are the large and very well equipped student hall & library; the Interstellar Canteen, with over two dozen restaurants serving menus from all over the Feyli Empire, the University Shipyard in which students take part in building real starships; University Station which provides direct service for the Black and Sky bus lines, and the Red, Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow and Pink subway lines; the famous Anwae Arena, a venue specifically fitted for Biogel Games matches; and Anwae Arena's associated Gelitech Gelarium.

Notable events in which MMU participate, or which they often attend, are the Biogel Games matches at Anwae Arena; Interstellar BopBall League games; The Annual Student MudMucker's Tournament; the semi-annual Mashiva City Street Race; the semi-annual Hive Week River Walk; and the annual Warrens Delve in the remnants of the former underground Macharri Naval Base.

Tuition at MMU is free for non-biogel wearing students without any degrees more advanced than journeyman (4 year), only ¢1,500 per year for students possessing at one degree of master or greater (6+ years), and  ¢2,500 per year for students with more than one degree of master or greater. For biogel wearing students, all tuition is free regardless of level, with automatic scholarships provided by Vixanti/Gelitech.
