What is Hero Me Gen7?

This post will give you a great overview of what it is all about. Over the past year Hero Me Gen6 with over 280 million possible configurations, has become the world's most compatible (and maybe most popular) print head assembly, for hotend, extruder, ABL, and part cooling for 3D printers. The Hero Me Gen7 takes this all to the next level.

Hero Me Gen7 will support:

  • ANY 3D PRINTER*
  • ANY DISCRETE HOTEND*
  • ANY DISCRETE DIRECT DRIVE EXTRUDER
  • ANY ABL SENSOR
  • ANY PART COOLING FAN
  • ANY OTHER 3D PRINTER X AXIS ADDON

*Any 3D printer that can mount discrete X carriage mountable components. Integrated hotend-extruders not included. Any hotend that can fit within: 27mm wide (X axis), 26mm length (Y axis), any hotend height

Here is a list of some of the changes and improvements that are in Hero Me Gen7:

  • Anything you could mount on a Hero Me Gen6 base can be mounted on the Gen7 base.
  • Greatly improved wire management without a chimney.
  • More upright front face for the heat sink fan on the base.
  • Completely redesigned heat sink duct.
  • Thoroughly CFD tested to greatly improve heat sink cooling performance and eliminate airflow to the heat block.
  • ABLs can now be be on the left, front, or right side of the base.
  • New heat sink skirts Provides added front mount point (e.g. ADXL345 accelerometer) and prevents heat sink air from flowing down over the heat block.
  • Support for very tall X carriages and tool changers.
  • Only one Gantry Adapter per printer model or 3rd party X carriage (this eliminates 3 quarters of all the Gantry Adapter parts).
  • New standardized Base top mount points.
  • New bottom mount points for larger add-ons.
  • New additional side mounts on the Hero Me base for wire management and other options.
  • Interlocking components for rigid mounting.
  • Only one mount per hotend model.
  • Only one direct drive mount type per extruder model. (this eliminates 80% of all the DD bases with no loss of compatibility).
  • STL and STEP files for all major components (STEP files will be a Patreon exclusive).
  • ONLY One Hero Me Universal Base. Yep, only one.
  • One Hero Me Base to rule them ALL!

The following components in BOLD are included in the initial Patreon Pre-Release. All Gen6 supported printers and components will be included before public release.

3D Printers

All currently HMG6 supported 3D printers (see Important Note below).

The following popular 3D printer models listed in BOLD hav Gen7 specific Gantry Adapters available in this first Pre-Release of Gen7.

Ender 3/Pro/V2/Max
Ender 5/Pro/Plus
Ender 6
CR-10/CR-10S/CR-10S4/CR-10S5
CR-10V2/V3
CR-10S Pro/Pro V2 V3
Anycubic Vyper
BTT Hermit Crab
Micro Swiss DD Kits (Ender 3/Ender 5)

More Gen7 specific Gantry Adapters will be released over the next two weeks.

Important Note: If you have a Gen6 compatible 3D printer that is not listed above, you can make the existing Gen6 Gantry Adapter for your printer, compatible with Gen7.

To do this you remove the raised 2mm 'frame' on the left side of the Gantry Adapter that surrounds the ABL mount points.  This can be done in the slicer with a blocker, edited in TinkerCAD or some other CAD tool, or trimmed away after printing with an Xacto knife. Gantry Adapters with a built-in hotend spacer standoff can only be used in Bowden setups for Gen7. Hero Me Gen7 Direct Drive setups only use the flat Gantry Adapters (no hotend standoff).

After the public release, additional existing and new 3D printers not currently supported will be added upon popular request (and when an X carriage STL, STEP, or detailed measurements are provided).

Part Cooling Fans:

All existing Gen6 Part Cooling Duct STLs are Gen7 compatible.

  • 5015
  • 5020
  • 4020
  • 4010

ABL Sensors:

All existing Gen6 ABL sensors STLs are Gen7 compatible. Note that some STLs are left hand oriented. If you want the ABL on the right side, you will need to mirror the wing and mount parts in your slicer before printing.

Community Remixes:

While there is no time for me to test over 650 remixes and add-ons, Most (if not all) should be able to work with the Hero Me Gen7 suite. Community remixes or add-ons made for Gen5-6 that are themselves a version of the Hero Me Base or a direct drive bracket will not be compatible with Gen7.

Hero Me Gen7 STL Parts Selection

Hero Me GEn7 part selection in most cases is much simpler that with Gen6. First off, there is just one Hero Me Base (well two if you're going with the Magnet Edition). All of the Hero Me Gen7 STLs are organized by part category and type. STL filenames contain the name of the specific components so it is easy to identify which ones you will need.

1. Get the Hero Me Gen7 Base STL.

2. Select the Gantry Adapter STL for your specific 3D printer model.

3. Select the Mount STL for your Hotend and the Skirt-Mount STL that matches your hotend.

4. Optional: Select an Extruder mount STL if you are going setup for Direct Drive use. There are both 'Front' and 'Rear' versions of most extruder mounts. This refers to the location of the stepper motor. Select the appropriate mount for how you want the extruder/stepper positioned.

5. Select the part cooling duct(s) STL(s) for the fan(s) you will be using.

6. Optional: Select the ABL wing & mount STLs for the ABL sensor you will use.

7. Select one of the wire management tower STL you want to use.

I'm designing my own gantry adapter to work better with my 3d fused plate as i noticed some signifigant sagging even printed in petg between the plate gantry adapter and main body Is there any reason for the full cut out behind the hot end heat sink other than weight or material savings?

Andrew Soderberg

The cutout is standard across all the gantry adapters to support those that have openings in the X carriage for heat sink air to exit. You can close that up if you prefer. FYI, I am working with 3DFused to have Hero Me mount points integrated into their X carriage plates so that no Gantry Adapter is needed.

Documentation is confusing me a bit. It lists Gen6 Gantry adapters for printers that don't yet have Gen7 version. What gantry adapter should i actually use when i have a Micro Swiss Direct Drive kit and using a Micro Swiss Hot end?

Andrew Soderberg

There are four MSDD Kit Gantry Adapters for Gen7. They are found in the this folder path: Gen7 Gantry Adapters/Micro Swiss
