It was quite a dramatic week in the video game industry! Each of the three platform holders had their moment in the spotlight, and perhaps not for the reasons they were hoping for. To summarize:

- Nintendo: Ongoing Nintendo Direct speculation and widespread rumors that Switch 2 will now be launching later than most people were expecting.

- Xbox: Finally shared its "business update" regarding games on other platforms, which some people felt was too little information shared too late

- PlayStation: In a financial update, shared that the PlayStation 5 is in the later stages of its lifecycle and also would not have a major first party release for this fiscal year.

Who had the worse week?

I struggle to see Nintendo pushing the Switch 2 to Q1 2025 as anything other than them feeling confident in their line up for 2024 (which presumably means some unannounced games on the way). Given how long they’ve had to prep the Switch 2’s release, I can’t imagine manufacturing or development issues at this stage! (I just really hope this is not an example of Nintendo complacency though…)

With a direct coming on the 21st, I can’t wait to find out what kind of games I’ll be playing this year. My backlog will only get bigger lol. So the rumor of the switch 2 coming in 2025 doesn’t bother me, I’ve got plenty to play & I’ve got my series X
