Important: please read the whole post as our subscription service will radically change soon!

After five years of running the Patreon, our 100th game will come out! With this big milestone, we feel now is a good time to change the way we make games...

A new goal!
Starting December, we'll stop making a game every month. Instead, our new goal will be... to make another 100 Sokpop games! But this time, without the monthly deadlines.

This will open up a lot more opportunities for us, such as making better quality games with more aftercare, working together on projects and using deadlines that make more sense for each project.

While this does mean the quantity of games will go down, we will still aim to release multiple games every year.

What does this mean for me?
All $3 patrons will get:

  • the latest Sokpop game
  • the monthly bonus game from our back catalog

However, there will not be a new game every month anymore. Instead, the games will be released when they are ready. Of course, we'll try to keep you updated about  our latest projects!

We'll keep making behind-the-scenes content monthly, and $5+ patrons will still get early access to our videos.

We will also keep releasing the source code of the latest game for $10+ patrons.

The transition
The 100th game is supposed to come out this month, so it will still fall under the old system. After that, starting in December, the Patreon will change to the new model.

While the 100th game is scheduled for November, it will probably come out later as we are a bit overworked. Because it's the 100th game, we're making the game together with the 4 of us! We'll try to get it out as soon as we can. Of course, all November patrons will still get the game when it comes out.

Why are we doing this?
We feel it is a necessary step for us to keep the Patreon sustainable going forward. We're also very excited to start making even bigger and better games, without having an externally forced deadline every month!

I want to stop supporting, but I just did a yearly payment!
We understand that not everyone will want to keep supporting us if there is not a new game every month. If you just paid for a yearly membership but want a refund, please let us know in a DM on Patreon and we'll make sure you get your money back.

This change will usher in a new era for Sokpop: hopefully you'll be along for the ride! Thanks for all the support over the years, and we're excited to make even more games for you!

Love,

Sokpop Collective

Good luck with your future endeavors, but I've planned to cancel for a while now. This is just icing on the cake at this point.

I remember some time back when you changed from having two games a month to only one, bigger and more polished one, if I recall correctly You actually wanted to keep a deadline, fearing that otherwise you would just take too much time Hopefully that prediction will not come true! Good luck

I just love and wholeheartedly support this new direction. Keep up the amazing work and I'll look forward to seeing what the future holds! Congratulations and all the best!

Looking forward to it, congrats!

Bit of a surprise, not what I thought I just paid for and was admittedly sceptical at first, but I fully look forward to it!

This is great news. Quality is more important than quantity.

Oke

Isn’t it possible to switch to a „$ per project“ payment option on Patreon? Sure that would be less money for you but still would mean same cost games for us and more time for you too

sokpop

it’s possible but that’s just the same as buying the games on steam so we won’t be doing that probably!

that's great to hear! I feel like the most critisism i've ever seen sokpop get was that games got shoved out the door before they were ready, so this is a more than welcome change I feel.

Quick question, as someone who joined up recently, do we still get the monthly backlog game? No big deal if not, just curious since I don't have a majority of you're previous releases.

James Hott

Only ask since I only see one bonus game for november on my page.

Same here. Got a bonus for Nov (Clutchball) and last game (Wurdweb) but none for Dec.

You guys are chasing the dream. I personally feel like sometimes less is more. More time in the oven should make the games better over all.

Same, I only got into sokpop last year so a lot of the backlog is still new to me
