SOME TIME AGO, in some sort of ancient episode, I (brandon sheffield) wanted to talk about a particular skill test video I had seen on youtube, in which someone, in "some castlevania" beat a boss with only punches. I sure could not remember what it was! But I just stumbled upon it again. Turns out the boss was Julius, and the game was Aria of Sorrow. Please enjoy, complete with a bitcrushed version of "love is in danger," one of the top songs you should be drifting in your honda to.

P.S. remember annotations? They were great. Now they're gone and we'll never know all the stuff this person had to say about their amazing GBA battle against Julius Belmont.

Soma vs Julius - Flawless Victory! (now with annotations!)

World record! Defeating Julius Belmont with no weapons, armor, souls (except abilities), and only 1 HP left! BG Music: "Initial D - Love is in Danger" by Priscilla-chan. I was actually playing the song while fighting, this made the battle much more interesting (Playing over 40 hours with the same song over and over gets kind of boring :P ). NO, I DID NOT CHEAT. Passing Julius when he's about to whip you is a technique I discovered (requires exact timing). I call it "the blind spot" because the whip has a blind spot just before Julius tries to hit. Just beware the backlash! The video is now annotated with explanations of my secret techniques (including the blind spot) and other hints for defeating Julius. Enjoy!

Youtube annotations were such a useful feature. One of the most clever uses of it that I'd seen was when someone "ported" an old Star Trek FMV game to Youtube, putting all the video footage up piecemeal and using the annotations system to create the gameplay flow. They were timed and everything so if you didn't pick a choice you'd be shuffled off to another video "pointing out your feeble human ignorance": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVo2kVVChU0

ah yeah, I (brandon) saw a few things like that, trying to gamify video and stuff. There was also someone who did detailed commentary on an illbleed playthrough that was fantastic, but all that stuff's gone now! sadness.
