Finished the video.. you are on the money with mathematics. Drummers learn what’s called limb independence - the ability to keep different patterns on different limbs. Danny is a god at it. I remember listening to this song when the album dropped and wishing I could see it, then this video came out. If you see during the breakdown, he’s doing two big things to make that section work - keeping time using the hi-hat (that’s the rhythmic tapping) and using rebound on literally every stroke. You’ll never see a drummer use sticks that aren’t wood (except for certain plastics in rare cases) because the wood is flexible. Coupled with a loose grip, the sticks bounce when you hit a drum or cymbal. Control over that bounce is what allows the fast hits you saw all through the video - you can even see Danny put his thumb on the top of the stick at various points to accentuate the bounce. Unfortunately, the VR drumming can’t really teach that because it’s a physical input.

Inhuman ultimate S-tier drumming! Biss, “this man is octopus, I only have two eyes” puts on glasses (now hab four...such cute much warning)

I've been tempted to suggest putting an Evans practice pad and some sticks on Throne but didn't know she still had an interest in drums until I saw the VR.. Not having a way to practice rebound control is missing out on a very important component of learning the drums. There's even some cheap MIDI drum set pads with pedals that would get you further than the VR, assuming they don't lag ridiculously, which is part of why the MIDI input looked interesting, but not if it behaves as you said.
