I'd always seen the Mike letting the person through at the barrier without checking their ticket as a sign of his deep care of his family, but upon seeing your reaction, perhaps it was a sign that his journey to become BB Mike has officially begun, and it's practically confirmed by his last scene in this episode. In the first few episodes they made a point of how much of a sticker stickler he was! The first 7 episodes are almost 1 story, the Kettleman situation.
