Just wanna hear my patron's thoughts about the Discord server; is it unnecessary? Might look into changing stuff around a bit, or going back to how things were before.

Discord is a good way to keep track on the artwork, and interact with you. I would deem it necessary for a patreon to you. Suggestions: Implement an announcement channel on discord, about commissions, and streaming and other important info.

I never use Discord, so just for someone like me it is an extra step to access your stuff there. The other option that some of the other artists I support use is that they send monthly art packages via messages. That is nice since all the files are in one place. Others will just post files on their page, which is really tough to keep up with. So as far as providing pledge materials, putting it all in one place is ideal, whether via Discord or Patreon messages. I can see how Discord would be good for your supporters to be able to interact with you, since people like to feel engaged.

I personally like the discord, it makes accessing your posts a lot easier for me because patreon's website just refuses to work half the time when I try to use it( it bugged out 5 or 6 times while typing this)

I like it, quick and easy way to talk to you and other patrons.

I can only speak for myself, but I prefer having one place to get content, rather than having to go to multiple places, even if that place (like Patreon) is buggy sometimes. I've never used Discord for any Patreon content, and since I give to multiple contributors, it would become impossible to follow. As a result, I've never used it.

I prefer the old way, I just want to see the artwork.

As someone running a pateron, Discords focused on artist are usually pretty dead except for the occasional chatter and discussion about stuff that pops up. Most people on discord already have their "main" discord servers that they monitor. That doesn't mean it can't be a place with a lot of discussion eventually though. As you get more active users, you'll slowly start to get feedback through it more often. My recommendation is to use discord as a supplement to the content you post on Patreon. If you post all your finished images here, maybe give people in progress stuff over the discord, or ask quick questions that wouldn't be appropriate for a post that goes out to everyone on Patreon, like "what color should her hair be? @everyone" - people can mute server notices if they aren't interested in getting pinged by participation stuff. Don't use it as a replacement for making your main posts here or you'll lose people who can't use discord.

And just to be clear, I don't think trying to stop piracy on discord is very effective no matter how you do it, and I don't think it's very important either. The people that are going to support you are going to support you regardless, the people that aren't and would prefer to pirate probably can't afford to pay you anyway, and if they could they'd just generate bad word of mouth for you because of the animosity built by your anti-piracy methods, it's lose/lose. It's better to focus on making the experience for the people that are supporting you the best it can be and forget about trying to force people who don't want to into your community.

I like Discord's interface much better since Patreon's desktop interface is among the worst I have used: - horizontal screen usage ratio is less than 1/3 due to "mobile design" - UI elements (like post, reply to comment, etc.) are tiny - comment font size is too small - comment threading usually breaks - switching between feeds of people I support is cumbersome - downloading of a post's main images is cumbersome, unless they are also posted as attachments (more work for the artist) - no "download all attachments" option - comment section is not suitable for forum-style long-form discussions For long-form discussions neither Patreon nor Discord is ideal, a forum would be best for that. For short chats and gathering simple real-time feedback Discord is superior. For polls I think Patreon might be better. Many artists are using Patreon and Discord like you do, crossposting content to both. Might be worth pinning your pics in the 'Patreon Schtuff' channels so if someone jumps in late they don't have to scroll up to see what the chat is about. For myself, I would perfer if you'd keep posting archives or download links to Discord, I really like if stuff is nicely organized in one place, not just a long list of posts. Others might not have as much problems with Patreon, but since I follow many artists things get cluttered real fast.

2021-11-19 12:05:07 I, personally, see no harm in having the Discord. I wouldn't say it's pointless, because it allows better communication between the members of that particular Patreon and the artist, even if there isn't a lot of it. Having the option available is worth it, even if it's infrequently used. Plus, the art links on the Discord server and so much easier on loading times for saving the MASSIVE file sizes you make. o: >.>

Prefer having images posted here (I get email notifications) but if you stick with making an announcement post here every time you upload new stuff to discord I'm fine with that too. Regarding the discord itself, it'd be nice if you posted the Fennec stuff in the Shibe channel too (eg. with the Ninetails, if both the base and the edit were posted in Shibe, and just the base was posted in Fennec) so it could all be in one place instead of one in each channel. Main thing I want is fewer places to follow for art, and less worry about potentially missing content.
