Good morning folks! The latest Youtube video is finished and is ready for you with my thanks.

Man that editing job ended up MUCH tougher then expected. Here's some behind the scenes details for those curious (I've narrated it for anybody who would rather listen ):

  •  The video took 5 weeks to create. And is the second one I've made in Adobe Premiere. It features 841 individual text boxes. With 51 seperate Adobe After Effects timelines, using the source footage of 9 streams recorded from OBS. And a total runtime of about 16 minutes.
  •  My initial plan was to cut a narrative-heavy playthrough in multiple episodes (similar to Alien Isolation). But I quickly realised that the nature of Far Cry 3's story would make that unsatisfying. Most of the story is shown in these beautifully-crafted motion captured cutscenes.  The experience wouldn't be improved by just showing cutscenes and having a British man talk over them.
  •  So instead I kept the funny moments on another timeline and was going to release those as a short video. But didn't expect there to be so many of them. The timeline bloated from 5 minutes, to 10, to 20, then down to 16 with some tightening.
  •  An additional consideration was, most of the comedic moments are low-burn in nature (what I call number 1's). Great for quick cuts, but you need very good number 2's or especially number 3's for opening and closing punchlines. So if I split the video up into multiple videos, there would be this handicap. It's better to cluster lots of number 1's together for a big comedic chain instead of release them all in small doses. Because you need to start strong and end strong, and number 3's are the tools you need to do that. Closing jokes.
  • The biggest hurdle I encountered though, was in the quality assurance. Due to the nature of OBS streams, the mic audio and the sounds etc are all part of the same audio track. Meaning when I cut and move them out of sequence for comedic effect it's extremely noticable. Getting a consistent sounding video was difficult.
  •  I did however learn two new things. The parody segment from about 4:24 let me experient with the puppeteer tools in adobe after effects. Which let me move static images around, as typiclly seen in the Youtube series "If the Emperor Had A Text to Speech device".
  •  And I also discovered the x, y and z rotation tools and their associated keyframe animation. Letting me do some cool stuff, as you can see with that lady's fan at 10:50.

Hope you like the video. Your opinions and feedback are always very welcome.

Soviet xx
