So I've finished going through the footage for Far Cry 3. And what I've done is cut the 9 streams into about 150 individual clips on three timelines:
  • a.) Narrative & comedy (like Alien Isolation, Outlast, etc)
  • b.) Comedy only (Random Bullshittery)
  • c.) Stock footage of combat moments (which made me realise something. I'll explain in a minute).

In terms of suitability, this is what I've found:

  • Narrative-heavy video - Not very suitable due to the nature of Far Cry's story. The trouble is, the player isn't given much agency when it comes to discovering developments and narrating them. In most cases the player is moving from one point to another in order to trigger cutscenes, clearing pirate bases on the way. Any narrative-heavy video would just be the Far Cry 3 cutscenes with a British man talking over them. Not all that entertaining. I don't think I should go for this.
  • Comedy only video - Numerous silly scenarios happened during the playthrough. Mostly due to AI glitches, plot silliness with mushrooms, or my lack of driving ability. I'm fairly confident there's enough here for a bullshittery, though it'll probably be shorter then 10 minutes. Hoping to take a stab at it if you like?
  • The something else - So while collecting lots of combat footage for possible use, I noticed something interesting.  It shows a gradual escalation in the complexity of kills as I learnt how to play Far Cry 3 and unlock various skill sets, which in turn mirrors the main characters descent into a killer as part of his character arc. Which got me thinking. I was reminded of Paul Marino's  I'm Still Seeing Breen video from years ago (incidently something I'm keen to pay homage to at some point) which shows the entire plot of Half Life 2 in a well-edited escalating montage. I'm considering doing the same treatment to Far Cry 3, mixing in the cutscenes and creating something different from my usual format, but hopefully quite interesting to watch. I won't do that right now though, I'll edit up the funny moments first and see what I come up with. But if I did end up doing it, would that be the sort of thing you'd be willing to have me make in my work hours? Or would you rather I save it for my free time? I'm planning on making it anyway, but would rather not take the piss out of your patronage. I work to your pleasure after all :) If you have a moment to answer yay or nay here  I'd appreciate it.

I'll keep cutting the footage and give the next update on Friday. I'll see what I have by then. Thank you as always for your support.
