So it's the second week of work on Random The Culling Bullshittery (part 2), and the video is nearing completion. But there's a big problem.

Having uploaded some low quality test renders to Youtube to begin QA'ing for errors, this thing reared it's ugly head.

The final sequence of the video is edited in slow-motion to parts of an opera song called "Time to say goodbye" , which builds up quietly during the confrontation between my brother and I, eventually reaching a crescendo as we cross blades.

And while I was totally expecting to have this happen, and then have Youtube just force adverts on to the copyright holder's benefit, this time it's different.

The copyright holder doesn't want the song used at all. And mutes everything, even ininstances of fair-use like this one. This is very unexpected, as there are plenty of examples of this song all over Youtube, much to my confusion.

Now, this does kind of torpedo the video somewhat. The ending was carefully cut together to the tune of this song. And undoing it is not impossible, but undesirable. I've emailed the company that is acting is the stead of the copyright holder, asking for permission. But now it's a bit of a waiting game. The final 2 minutes of the video sit in limbo.

I'll wait 24 hours for a response. And if I hear nothing, begin disasembling the ending to return to the drawing board.

In the mean time, I've started QA'ing the rest of the video. There's still about 9 minutes I can do. So I'll focus on that. And I've reached roughly the 5 minute mark.

But yeah...huge bummer.

Bummer, but I'm sure you can make it work nonetheless!

Copyright getting in the way a great free content, that's a real shame. I've enjoyed hearing your opinions on advertising and would like to hear what you have to say on copyright law sometime. Not sure if you have ever brought it up on a stream or anything.

If you actually get a response from them I will eat a square metre of cardboard. With onions. .. nah, I jest, but still I'd be very surprised if you received a reply, much less in 24 hours.

if it doesn't work out you could make two copies: One the way you original created which you could uploaded into a share drive in google drives for people in Patreon to watch(also you could share it on social for others not in Patreon) The second one being the same video with a different ending that will meet YouTube's copyrights requirements.

What if you use the Step Brothers version of the song instead? https://youtu.be/ZR6Z6q8RjBs I'm sure it will still capture the essence of what you were going for and get some cheeky giggles

It's alright Womble, I'm sure you'll still smash it as usual.

It'll probably be accepted on Vimeo. Maybe upload the current version there?

It is a powerful song and I do hope you win. If not, I know it is a lot of work, but back to the drawing board you must... People will wait for these videos. I know I will. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2017!
