The somewhat delayed part 5 of the Womble's Soapbox - DayZ Standalone video. I hope you like it :)

As always, draft version, so kindly don't share. But I'd love to hear your feedback so I can make the appropriate changes where necessary.

In this chapter:

  •  I once again touch upon the points made in chapter 1, by trying to determine if Bohemia knew what sort of game DayZ had evolved into it during the standalone's development.
  • And then I have a mini-rant about the inclusion of the farming mechanics. It's a minor and cherry-picked point, yes.  But to me it suggests that the answer to the former question might be no.

I've lost a day, but this week I'm jumping right into a bullshittery episode. Probably either Culling or CSGO. Going to have a look at the footage :)

I liked your point about Bohemia's resources and content of their changelogs and perhaps you can make a little summary of their changelogs in a form of a chart.

one thing I feel was missed from this video, and you said so yourself, is that the game doesnt even have base building yet, so what is then the point of a resource that has to stay in one place, while the game pushes you to nomadically explore.

Fear not, that's the largest of the chapters. Chapter 7. With a run time of 20 minutes, I go through the patch notes and talk about my experience in software development to cast my opinions on what I'm seeing. I'm an outsider looking in, sure...but I see things that are very strange.

The Diablo bit seemed to take a bit of steam off the flow of the video. Your narration style seems a bit faster than his, maybe try speeding up the ripped off parts or recutting it?

I really don't want to spoil the entire video for myself so I won't be able to provide feedback :/ Really excited about this one though, first (hopefully of many more to come) criticism-ish videos from you :)

Glad you put the music back. it's nice. I hope you actually let MrBtonuge know you're using his content. At the 4 minute mark, you do get overly excited. It's justified, but the majority of soapbox, you kept a cool voice. not sure if you want to keep this consistency or not. FUN FACT FROM REDDIT: The USA is the only English speaking country that pronounces the Z as "zee" instead of "zed". ANOTHER FUN FACT: When you say ZF, I always here it as "zen eff". Overall, I think the videos flow pretty well with each other, but since I didn't post this is part 4, I'll say it now. If the Cliffhanger in chapter 3 is zombies, then you immediately say continue in part four, it misleads the audience a little when they watch the whole things together. But hey, fuck us, right?

Complaining about the farming seems like a weak point. And them working and putting farming in had to have been easy and not pull devs off making the new engine. Thats really why most of the items had poured into the game. You can have artists working while people code the new engine. Unless youd like the artists to halt work so no new loot is added which just seems like a waste of resources. When you talk of the mod and when ever I see anything about the mod I never see anybody worried about food or water. I would be happy if that changed in the SA. They have been reducing the amount of canned food and bottled water for a bit now. Farming and hunting will be needed more. Now i have no idea if you mod people will be happy with that or not but I am excited to see how it changes things. Honestly in the mod from what I've seen food, water and infected were never a threat. I never see people looking for food or eating it. Same with water. And people will stand around groups of infected and not even worry about getting hit. Never understood why infected were even in the mod looking back at videos of the game. Nobody ever worried about them.

Perhaps what Bohemia decided to do was recreate the original, vanilla DayZ, in the somewhat misguided hope it would take off like the original did.

Are there mods for the Standalone? Maybe they hope that players will build onto the base saving them the work.

Thing is though the farming was not just retexturing. For the farming a whole new logic had to be implemented, which has to be done by programmers not by artists. Those programmers could work on either fixing known bugs or implementing more meaningful features. And what Womble said still stands, that something like farming was implemented while a majority on "core" features are not is a really bad sign.

Can't wait till it comes out on console. Yes I realize I'm a console peasant, but I couldn't afford a gaming pc.

Soviet, is there, in your opinion, any game that comes close to Arma 2 DayZ Epoch?

Unfortunately the previous comments do not load, so maybe my approach isn't new… Following your logic, BI should have adapted to the modding community since years. Luckily they didn't. They stayed true to their sandbox approach. As you mentioned in your second video, fleshing out a whole faction and not even using it in the main campaign is a great thing for the modders. As an example, what would have happend if they decided to alter the in-development ARMA because at some time there were more Wasteland servers than campaign mission servers? My guess is that we would have missed many great mods coming after Wasteland. You may be right with the criticism that BI didn't keep the community entertained during Early Access - but as other Early Access examples show this is nothing more than a nice to have but no written principle of steam. But apart from that I am really very satisfied that they stick to the plan to provide a sandbox for the modders to mess with. So the community can vote again what becomes popular. Having epoch-like features in the vanilla would definitly limit the modders creativity. These are my two cents on the topic. And to this type of video: A controversial topic like this one is definitly a good approach to get views. Personally I think you have used pretty far-fetched arguments. But you explained them properly so this is fine for me. And now this wall of text has come to an end. Looking forward to more content, it get's time that you have something aside of the bullshittery videos, as hilarious they are.

Hi there, I got only recently into your Patreon and just saw all of these Videos. Firstly: Well done, this series is a nice change to your usual content, but still very entertaining and as long as you don't begin to rush, they will come out pretty solid and I'm sure, your viewers will enjoy them. However nothing ever goes without critisism, so heres mine - altough its only on a small, technical base, because I simply don't know much about the material here. However, i do have my fair experience in editing stuff and i think even the smallest adjustments make sometimes quite the difference. As I mentioned before, solid work is important, so you not only have to set the bar high, you must hold it (seeing that you seem to be quite the perfectionist). You didn't quite nailed that one yet; especially in the earlier two videos, where you often talked a bit too fast(to get more information out in lesser time, I guess). That's why it's sometimes hard to keep track of all the informations you're throwing at the viewer. Then the cutting between your recorded lines is often a bit too harsh - you literally cut yourself off from times to times - which is a bit irritating. Also, (and I really hope this isn't just me and my ears) your lines tend to sound different, as if you were sometimes nearer/ further away from your microphone. Then there is a small problem with your use of music: Sometimes it's a bit too loud or very sudden, when the rest of the video was silent and only you talking (good example: part 4), which is distracting and makes it hard to concentrate on the video itself, with the inconsistency and all that. Keep a clear style of editing through all the videos (use of music and humor, speaking tempo, yada yada), make up some rules for yourself and you're good to go. I hope this doesn't seem to much of pure nitpicking and assholery, but I really look forward to this project of yours and want to help improve it aswell, even if its only a small comment on here. :)
