It's the end of the working week. I've been pretty sick on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. But since I did lots of work last Saturday and Sunday, I'd say it's kind of evened-out. It's been roughly a full working week. I'm steadily starting to feel better now thankfully.

Here's the update:

In one week, I've been able to animate about 5 minutes out of 25 minutes for the Dungeons & Dragons Bullshittery. While that doesn't sound like a lot, it's actually not all that dissimilar from a regular bullshittery video. It's just that this video is 2.5X larger than the usual.

It's also worth noting that (unlike other videos) this one is going to require multiple passes for each individual character in the animation. Which is indeed going to suck. But again, is entirely expected since the artist I commission is going to need time to do all the drawings in batches. It's going to be impossible to do all of this in one pass. So I'm going to need to keep coming back and forth on this one.

But what I've been doing is taking 2/8 character assets that look like this (producing a visual that looks like this).

And turning them into a much more efficient series of assets that look like this (producing a visual that looks like this). Not only does it give me much greater control over the characters movement. But it lets me automate things like blinking, eye flicker and head/shoulders to generally make the characters seem move alive. All the commissioned artist needs to do is replace those new photoshop layers.

Now, the first minor character assets have already gone over to artist. And this second character will follow shortly. I think the best plan of action, rather than slog ahead with this for 4 weeks, is to put this to one side and let the artist work, while I make a different bullshittery in the meantime.

Once I get some of the art back, I can see how it looks. Decide if this workflow is the right idea. And then make adjustments where needed. I'm also worried that if I continue with this for 4 weeks (giving non-backers another 6 weeks of silence on Youtube), they'll think my current rate of work is the new norm. Which would irk me a bit. I know most of you would probably tell me to ignore them. But whenever people start yelling that "Soviet is dead" on Youtube, despite working hard, it does wind me up somewhat :S

Therefore, next Monday I think I should start a fresh bullshittery and intentionally aim for an easier one. I know a lot of you wanted Gang Beasts or Rocket League, but I suspect those are going to be very technically complicated. Perhaps Kerbal, Puslar or We Were Here would be shorter and more efficient.
