You just have to remember with the AJ stuff that this arc is about the effects of privilege and being spoilt during your upbringing. It shows how it won't prepare you for the real world. Obviously, this is also coupled with the depression that he has inherited from Tony. He is 'the second coming' but that depression and rage has taken a different form. With Tony and his generation, it's not something that they fully understand, as evidenced by the crew's conversation after the suicide attempt, and their generation would react with rage and violence towards others. Whereas the younger generations are more prone to self harm etc. I don't think I enjoyed the arc first time around either, but I was 15 and didn't understand what was happening. These episodes are extremely highly rated on IMDB, so def surprised by the reaction to this, but so much better upon rewatch anyway. Definitely watch Pure Kino's video titled 'A defence of AJ' when you're done with the show. I'm glad this stuff is part of the show, because if it was only mob warfare it would be nowhere near as interesting.

I think you both would really love Boardwalk Empire, made by the same people who produce and wrote The Sopranos
