Thanks for the reaction, fellas!! Enjoy hearing you breakdown this and Boogie Nights. I definitely agree with y'all that this one is up there in the gangsta/hood movie pantheon (What's y'all number one?). I like how it moves quickly, but doesn't feel rushed. Characters making the most of little screen time and crazy quick transitions like you mentioned. Stuff like the apartment story or rise of 'Ze coulda been 30 minutes and they did it in about five without short-changing it. Definitely has that grittiness and real-life feel like The Wire too, makes you think you're really in the city. I couldn't watch 'Ze and the Runts without thinking of Marlo and Kenard either, lol. My Brazilian homeboy put me on to it and he was telling me how the slang was going crazy the whole movie (not in the subtitles, lol) and that most of actors (especially the "Black" ones) were just kids from the favela in real life, probably why it feels so natural to me.

I saw this way back but I can't remember it too well. A rewatch on this channel is totally warranted. Thank you MBDS!

It just occurred to me. All I remember is one woman telling another that bananas are multi-purpose. Of course... that's something I'll remember. I don't care where in the world you are, there's always a way! lol
