Jedi Mandalore (Dylan)

So Gwen dying is a actually a big event in the comics within the The Green Goblin's Last Stand story arc from 1973. In this Norman discovers Spider-Man's identity. Green Goblin then abducts Spider-Man's girlfriend Gwen Stacy bringing her to the top of one of the New York bridges where Gwen is killed during the battle, and a subsequent fight results in the Goblin's death. This was kind of recreated in Spider-Man 1 only instead of Goblin going after Gwen it was MJ who of course didn't die but they took the whole idea from this comic. Norman's "curse" seems to be heavily inspired by the Ultimate Universes take on the Green Goblin. Norman creates OZ a formula that was made in an attempt recreate the Super Soldier serum for the U.S. military. But when used on him it turned him into a monster around the size of the Hulk but more Goblin, demonic looking. You don't see it in this film but his hands and nails give us this vibe, would've been cool though to see this take in the film go all in on the Ultimate Universe lore. Harry though seems to be inspired by the more mainline Goblin designs just without a mask so his actual skin and face turns green and more goblin like. Has green armour and of course the classic slider. Harry in the comics did become the second Green Goblin but in this film Norman it seems never had the chance so Harry is techinally the first one in this universe. Jamie Fox plays the character Electro introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 in 1964. In the original Earth-616 story, Max Dillon was a lineman for an electric company who turned to a life of crime after being struck by lightning while working on a power line and becoming a living electric capacitor. This film though is heavily inspired by the Ultimate Universe Electro who is fully blue and has blue electric powers instead of blue. Not everyone liked the design of him but it's unique I guess. Ravencroft Institute is pretty much the Arkham Asylum of the Marvel universe first appearing in Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #1 a story focused around the character Carnage a serial killer but I'll not mention anything else. In the comic's it has a more old Gothic Asylum look so it's cool they used it here in this film. The scene of the unknown man walking through Oscorp after meeting Harry you can see a bunch of really important equipment created by Oscorp. You can see four tentacles which is a clear nod to Doc Ock who in the Ultimate universe worked at Oscorp along side Norman his company created those tentacles with the help of Doc Ock. We then see the Wings of Vulture who was meant to be the main villain in Sam Rami's Spider-Man 4 before it was cancelled. The last suit is of course Rhino's who we actually see at the end of the film. All of this was a massive tease hinting at the The Sinister Six a group of supervillains who come together to fight against Spider-Man. The original incarnation of the group was organized by Doctor Octopus and consisted of himself, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter. But it looks like Harry is the one to group everyone together in this rendition with Rhino being a member of this team. Also heard rumours that Kraven the Hunter was meant to be the main villain of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 which I'm all for such a cool villain. Not a big fan of this Rhino design but we only see him at the end anyways.

The Electro theme is a masterpiece by Hans Zimmer Fun fact, there is almost like, half a movie cut with Shailene Woodley playing Mary Jane, but it just didn't make sense for her character in the final version of this movie as the main focus was on Peter & Gwen The suits/villains teases was Sony's way of saying the Sinister Six movie was on the way, it was scrapped just like TASM 3 & 4 as Sony & Disney made the deal for a Spiderman reboot in the MCU. There was also huge issues for Sony at the time (2014) as they got hacked and emails, plans & scripts got leaked. and last, just a tip.. wait with Venom 2 until you've seen Spider-Man: Far from Home

Just a few things: 1. This patreon is one of the best subscriptions I've made in a minute. I'm usually apprehensive about it, but Iove the MCU, Marvel and anime reactions. 2. I can't wait for you guys to get to the Tom Holland Spiderman movies. Every single one of the Spidey's has grown on me significantly. Not only that, but I really can't wait for you to see rest of the MCU journey for real. 3. Are you guys watching the Into The Spiderverse series? You both would LOVE it. Dope movies for real. 4. I saw you react to Singing in the rain lol. If I could recommend a film, it would be La La Land. Emma Stone + Musical.

Kazoo

Will you guys eventually watch the into the spider-verse movie?

Simon

Yes there are versions of the comics where Gwen dies even mj sometimes , but the one of the main reasons they killed her was because there was supposed to be a third movie but it got cancelled

Brian - VampyreKing - Cacini

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could turn the movie up on your side just a little bit? It's pretty low when I watch your posts. If you can't I'll manage it's not a really big deal. Really enjoying your reactions. These characters aren't connected to the MCU yet but have you watched Ghost Rider and Blade? Venom 2 is pretty cool. Really enjoying going down this MCU path with you guys! Thanks for the awesome reactions.

dikuzon

every time i see Gwen die my tears come out 😭btw, in the Rhino scene there is a small cameo of Mary Jane who is played by Shailene Woodley, it's a shame we didn't get to see more of her.. Nice reactions guys, al alwayss 💯

Lifehouse

This movie ages well imo, give it some time guys.

Andres Avendaño

Love your reactions guys! One suggestion, now that you are into spiderman movies you could watch Spiderman Into the spiderverse, for me, the best spidey movie

Mark

Vince you had me cracking up when you said " damn this spiderman for the people" lol!

Jacob Alley

Same here man their Patreon is literally the best one I’ve ever come across

iYxxngi

Tick tick boom is another good film starring Andrew Garfield in my opinion

Fujipredator

With the Fourth of July coming up in less than a month I think it would be awesome if you guys reacted to Independence Day. Either before or right after would be cool.

Anthony Frye

I really wish Andrew got his trilogy. Ik people have their reasons to which spiderman is the best. Me personally i don't "take sides" when it comes to that debate bc imo, every single iteration of Spiderman we got has been spectacular in their own respective ways. But what happened to Andrew was really messed up, he never got to fully finish telling that entire story it was kinda... abandoned in a way. People really gave these 2 movies (Amazing Spider-Man 1&2) a lot of shit when they first came out, But it's funny because now in 2023 everyone seems to appreciate Andrew as spiderman and the 2 movies especially Amazing Spider-Man 2. I can proudly say i loved these movies from the jump. Great Reaction as always.

JESSEMLR1

Since you guys finished Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man just remember the next one is Tom Holland Spider-Man homecoming but it still follows the MCU release order. So after Spider Man Homecoming is Thor Ragnarok

SavageDiplomat

You guys have been awesome with the consistency. Im sure i speak for everyone when i say we appreciate it. Top tier content creators. If you are looking for a new franchise to get into i would recommend the Mission Impossible franchise. Its another elite franchise which im sure you would both enjoy if you havent seen. We definitely need that Spiderman into the Spiderverse after Spiderman Homecoming.

“Now everybody wanna try to run y’all…now it’s dangerous” 😂😂 Vince you a fool for that one, had me crying

Trey Mitchell

Yeah, Gwen Stacy died in the comics in almost the same way as the movie. It was apparently a big deal when it happened because I think the status quo at the time was main characters didn't die in comics. I could be wrong, but I believe she was Peter's first love before MJ.

Fawks

Man this movie gets ragged on hard but not only is the romantic chemistry and the heartbreak and all that solid, but Electro's music specifically in all of Foxx's scenes is just top tier. Looking it up now, of course it's Hans Zimmer. The score truly sells Electro's power.

Justin M Borowski

Technically Peter dated Betty Brant from the daily bugle but it's made pretty clear Gwen Stacy was Peter's first true love interest, but Mary Jane was later established as the definitive one in the most popular Spiderman mediums. It's a hotly debated Fandom thing. Also, just like in Sam Raimi's trilogy, MJ is kinda always dating other guys and her and Peter can never make it work. And with Gwen their relationship only ended because she died. So I'd argue she was his true love 🙃 fight me y'all

Rigs216

Spiderman 121(why the clock stopped at 1:21) where Gwen Stacy's neck was snapped by the whiplash from spidermans own web was the end of the Golden age of comics. Comics were no longer fun kids stories but could also be allowed to tell deeper stories about death, addiction, depression, grief and suicide. Spiderman was the first ever hero to try and save the girl.... and fail

Simon

You talk about one of the movies lmao, so many comics and shows where Peter Mary’s mj , his high school love is mj. Stupid know what you’re talking about

Jorge Viera

I think the third movie peter was gonna be more rekkles and fight to type stuff, he said in NWH that he stopped pulling punches after gwen died so maybe the 3 he wouldve went down a dark path
