Hunger games was actually inspired by this film. This film spawned the whole battle royal style films. This is the original.

What? No it wasn't. Suzanne Collins herself said that she wrote the Hunger Game books because of the stories her dad told her about his time in the Vietnam war. And she said that she combined that with the zeitgeist of Rome and its era of gladiators.

What Suzanne collins said may be true but Battle Royal started the whole trend of savage distopian settings in movies where people are pitted against each other. Other battle royale type movies were made since but hunger games was the first to use kids just like Battle Royale. Saying it was inspired by this is putting it nicely honestly, most people say it’s just a blatant rip off with less blood.

hahahaa your reaction at the end. I found this movie sometime in the year 2006. i was 11 at the time. My sister and brother actually found it on Youtube and then they showed me and i was in shock. Its one of my fav movies. Its a cult classic now in Japan and America. Also there is an extended version of the movie that goes into the relationship between Nakagawa and Kitano (the teacher). Also shows why that crazy girl who was killing people is the way that she is. But basically, Kitano cared about Nagakawa because she reminded him of his daughter who he was on the phone with. but his daughter hated him for not being there for her.

If yall fuck with this you should watch Oldboy the Korean version from 2003ish. It's an absolute mind fuck thriller about revenge that I think you'd enjoy. The American remake is shit though unfortunately. But the original genuinely has one of the best fight scenes and mindfuck moments I've seen in a film.

Also no one seems to have pointed out this film is the reason battle Royale games exist. The OG battle Royale game "Player Unknowns Battleground" took influence from this and features pretty much all the weapons from this film even the dumb little scythe thing.
