True classic Scifi Horror. The sound the Ants’ make is haunting

"Them!" is the first and best of the giant "bug" movies of the 50's. Originally planned for color and 3-D, then the budget was decreased but we still got a great movie. The special effects were nominated for an Academy award (it lost to Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"). Many people see similarities in some scenes from Aliens (1986) to scenes in this movie. Did you catch Leonard Nimoy (Spock from Star Trek) in a short scene (the officer who found the report of flying saucers resembling giant ants)?

FYI, movies experimented with using color since almost the beginning of films but it was very expensive so it was rarely used until the mid to late 30s and even then only for a few movies. It wasn't until the early to mid 60s that almost all movies were made in color (and TV programs went to all color around 1967).

Earlier this year, WB announced that a remake of THEM! is in the works.

Its been a long time since I've seen this one. It's not on many "must see" lists. This was actually the first Netflix movie I got, back when they sent out DVDs instead of streaming like everyone does now. I first heard of this movie when I was in middle school. There was a book in our school library that was a catalogue of old movie posters and production stills with a little summery of each one. This one caught my attention right away. I have a soft spot for monster movies and creature features.
