I'm so glad this film worked for you. Thank you so much for your efforts. It's always been one of my favorites. Much praise has been offered about Robin Williams' acting chops and while it's valid, it doesn't tell the whole story. Robin wasn't acting for much of the film, it was improvised on the spot. Most of the bits while he was on the air, Robin was just told to be himself and have fun. The best bits were edited into what we saw. That's a whole other kind of talent and truly genuine connection with the role he was being asked to play. This film was also Robin's first steps into more dramatic and thoughtful performances. His previous films were good and highly watchable but they often depended on overt silliness and his natural manic energy. I consider it very interesting to watch his acting skills and confidence develop through his career and we will certainly be dipping into his pool of films again in the future. Thank you Mr. Williams for sharing so much of yourself with us and I pray that you've now found the peace that you couldn't find in life.

On doing the full watch along, I fear I must offer one factual correction. You state that your grandfather was a "Black Hawk" pilot during the Vietnam conflict. Later, at about the hour and twenty eight minute mark, you point out the "Black Hawks" again. The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk didn't have it's first test flight until the mid seventies, well after Saigon fell. The helicopters shown in the film (and virtually every other Vietnam film) would have been some variant of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, commonly called "Hueys".
