No really wrong choice here.I do have to give HACKSAW RIDGE a slight edge due to it being based on fact

For me it's Private Ryan. The two WW2 Spielberg productions, Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan, captured a grit and realism that I think few other war movies have. Hacksaw Ridge is a good movie but some of the depictions of violence seem somewhat cartoonish to me. There's also something about the production that feels off, like everything is too clean in some way. Unrelated, but you guys should add Arrival to one of your polls. It's a sci-fi movie so something a little different than the war movies yall have been doing.

I love both, maybe Saving Private Ryan a bit more. I remember going to see it in theaters when it came out. Both are amazing stories but with only one vote I made it a tie 😂

Hacksaw ridge is a lovely character story set in unfathomable circumstances, shows a great example of how to create and write a character that we all will fall in love with and care for.. but from a film making, storytelling and immersion perspective.. Ryan stands alone... Ryan had a budget 70 mill. in '98 that's about 130 mill today. Ridge had a budget of 40 mill. in '16.. today that's about 50 mill. but the higher cost doesn't necessarily mean a better film.. 1st gotta look at who wrote the story and scripted screenplay.. then look at who the director, cinematographer and production co. is.. then what actors are starring, then whose distributing the film.. Usually when all those things come together with the best in the industry, we get an Oscar winner..

Personally I believe without Saving Private Ryan we would not have any of the world war two war films we have today that came after it. If you pay close attention you can see all ww2 war movies pay homage to SPR in one way or another. Rather be it a conversation between characters. A certain cinematography shot, Character tropes, the list goes on. IMHO SPR paved the way for war films 90s and up. If I had to pick which one was better? I'd have to say Band of Brothers LOL. Sorry i know it's not an option but my grandfather fought with those men. He was an OG Toccoa Man. So you can see my bias bleeding in.
