I'm working on a system to allow object actions & object related posing in Virtamate. The general goal with it is to add interaction & gameplay mechanics with the scene. The vision is to mix it up with my YAAP plugin and bring animations too. For example a bed might have actions like "Sleep", "Read", "Relax", etc.

The UI when opened shows the available objects & their actions in the scene, sorted by proximity to the character. I'll likely add a treshold so that it shows only the objects near to that character to keep things tidier. The feature can be retrofitted in existing vam scenes and works with assets too. The first release with it will likely have just some basic posing actions like sit, sleep, stand.

Very cool. As someone who can spend hours making a scene (for renders / screen shots) it can be very tedious and time-consuming to manually position characters into a sitting position (just one example, but could be laying on a bed, or leaning against a wall, etc). Having this system would accelerate that sort of thing for sure!

At this point, meshedvr have to hire you mate xD

Yeah, Skyrim does that. If they can get the multi thread CPU working at some point, it will really open things up for real gaming. What do you think? Personally, for games I prefer 3rd person (with 1st person an option), non VR in most cases. But the option for VR in the game as well, is always good. I wonder why Meshvr did not write VAN correctly with mutli cpu support right from the start? Any ideas on why they did not????

you can't even type vam correctly but have opinions about how years worth of code should have been written... You can google it if you're actually curious, you'll find his old reddit posts talking about it as he was building it. The short answer is that at the time that wasn't a thing in Unity. What do you expect, time travel? Some dude with a free-time hobby project to single-handedly upgrade a game engine?

thomas d

Well then, that is a good reason, I guess. LOL It was just an off the cuff question anyway. I was not trying to offend him and I did not know he had that thread on Reddit. I am not up on Unity's history or how the licensing works. I though maybe there was a version out that could support it, but he had his reasons for not using it at the time (like he used the free version or some other reason). I will check out his thread when I have time, I am sure its a good read. But again, I don't think high level gaming is in reach until the update to multi-thread is complete. I agree the methods you are creating, is doing the best of what you have to work with. LOL This time I proof read my post. So there! : )

SPQRAeternum

that was a dig, not a question.. I don't think multi-thread will have the impact some people think. I don't think it's that that stops people from making 'high level gaming' with vam, it's the hard work that is required and the likely outcome that it's wasted time It's more likely that with that you'll see just more of the same. More models in the scenes, more hair & clothes physics on them and a slightly better visual experience overall

"More models in the scenes, more hair & clothes physics on them and a slightly better visual experience overall" that makes a difference. And hopefully a little smoother. I agree VAM is not a game program, if I am looking for something like Skyrim, I am not looking for it in VAM. I understand it is hard work, I am not asking you to do it. I know the possibilities are endless, but I want to give you an example. A nice car and a beautiful girl in a nice mountain or other nice visual setting. You hit a button, maybe like your new menu system, to do a few specific animations, like walking around and inspecting, bends over looks at the tires, lifts the hood, gets in the back seat or on the hood and fools around, and so forth and when ready select to get in the car. Go to POV and start the car and drive around the track. Have control over steering and speed. Can pull over. If you go off the track it stops and you turn to get back on the track. but you can pull over and get out by hand menu, do various aminations and get back in and drive. The laps can even be timed, to beat your score or at a good score move to the next track. Plus have a plugin to enter different locations for the track. And have it so others can make locations to put the tracks into (MODS). Have the option in the car to turn on the radio, and volume. Even though I know very little about coding, I think with the new upgrade to multi-thread, this could be possible without too much difficulty (relative) by a good coder familiar with this type of coding. It does not have to be perfect, as its not a racing game. Am I completely off base? I have already seen everything in VAM except actually controlling the car on the track. And maybe even that has been done and I have not seen it! Little gaming stuff like that, that would just add to the "VAM" experience. For me, things like this would be high level gaming in VAM. I would support someone doing something like this, adding new tracks and locations, not sure how many others would though. But I would love to seen things of this sort coming into VAM.

IMO, "Host the party you want to attend", Thomas... Use Roblox, RecRoom, NeosVR, and VRChat as training grounds for developing the skills that you can bring to figuring out how to do it in VaM. They're all free and are specifically designed to teach people with NO (and I mean ZEERO) coding how to move from 'idea' to 'shareable creation'.

thomas d

Time and brains are my biggest blocks. I started a creation to share about 3 weeks ago, trying to learn the logic bricks. I am using them, but I am sure in an illogical way. I am using a lot of resources to learn. And have reached out to a few creators who have been helpful. I am a slow learner. I will have to look into some of the tools you have mentioned, as I do not use those. Thanks.
