I don't know if it's OK to leave a comment like this, may upset some people. Paint thinner is a nasty thing. Get that in your eye and it's bad. My father with colleagues stayed over the weekend at the workplace where they did renovation during the week. Over the weekend they were drinking and my father found a Sprite bottle and thought it was the Sprite in it, but it was a paint thinner in it. It was a lethal mistake. So that thing is no joke.

When what's-his-name got paint thinner tossed on him, a bunch of his cells died, and the gap those dead cells created between the remaining living cells cut them off from one another. It's like part of his head was trying to do one thing, but other parts of it were still programmed to attack anything that moved.

I understand feeling bad for Shimada. For me it's mostly because they don't have empathy or morals but also not malice. So they're kinda like a wild animal that can speak etc. Still terrifying and need to be dealt with especially when in a rampage, but at the same time I feel just a little bad for him as he probably doesn't understand why what he is doing is so wrong.

It reminds me of the demons from Frieren. In my opinion, if they see us only as food, then we have no pity, only the desire to exterminate. He is programmed on survival instinct, but every time Shinichi says something triggering, Migi immediately read a book about the subject or check it on the net. 16:20 Shinichi asked Migi if Shimada is at fault, or "Do you think Shimada is guilty?" if you translate the sentence directly from Japanese. Migi replied disinterested at first. But as soon as they got home, Migi started reading the "Crime and Punishment" book to understand more about humans in general and the way of thinking of the host "Shinichi" in particular.
